I have been going to Stein for 9 years and have always appreciated the staff and service. However, I called today because I realized that I had run out of contacts and needed to schedule an eye exam because we’ve not been able to dial in my contact prescription as my eyes have changed due to age and I don’t want to spend money ordering more boxes on a mediocre prescription. I asked if I could schedule an appointment and run by and grab some sample contacts to tie me over (no point in spending $250 on 2 boxes of contacts when I need an eye exam). The lovely employee on the phone then informed me they will not give any samples anymore unless I order boxes of contacts - they’ve changed ownership and it’s no longer allowed. This is horrible customer service. (Not the sweet employees fault at all, he just works there) Sadly, I will take my prescription that doesn’t expire until the end of September, my insurance and the yearly business I give them for me and my child to a different South Bay optometrist. In reading the reviews, it looks like I’m not the only long time client they’ve lost due to new ownership.

Went there because I had a concern with ONE of my eyes having pink eye. The lady that assisted me placed drops on a strip, then proceeded to wipe the infected eye AND THEN the other non infected eye with the SAME DAM STRIP!! now I woke up with not one but BOTH eyes pink!!. Like, who does that? Also, she does not have good customer service. She seemed agitated. Like my existence wasn't up to her standards. Anyway I've been coming here since I was in my teens. Fell off and decided to come back, but nah, I'd rather be at America's Best than to have my eyes neglected by someone who don't know what they're doing.

Just passed by and the guys were really rude on us because it was 5.50pm. I was looking to buy 2 eyeglasses but I will surely go somewhere else where the customer service is better. Don’t go there unless u buy glasses or they will treat you bad.

Despite having been a patient at Stein for years, I will never return after my experience at this office yesterday. First off, the office staff has never been friendly. I could let that pass though, as I only need to interact with them to book my appointments, check in, and check out. What I can't let pass however, is my extremely unpleasant experience with the O.D., Vanessa Kuriki. During my routine eye exam, I asked to do a contact evaluation. She told me that with my insurance the price for the exam would be $X and then told me that there would be a "training fee" of $25. I said OK to the exam fee as that's normal, but I told her I did not want to do a training as I've already worn contacts in the past and had actually done the training at their office a few years ago. Vanessa lied to me, saying that the training was "legally required". This is factually untrue. There is absolutely no legal requirement for patients to undergo a paid training following a contact evaluation. I asked her if everyone who does a contact evaluation undergoes this training and she said "no" - so I questioned, how could this be a "legal requirement" but not everyone has to undergo it? I called her out on this lie and she continued to defend it saying that it was a "legal requirement." If the Optometrists at Stein Optometric Center are willing to lie to patients about legality, I want nothing to do with this medical facility. I decided to leave without completing the contact evaluation and I will now have that done with another local optometrist. If you're looking for a much better local alternative to Stein, I would visit Look! Optometry in downtown Manhattan Beach. I've been to Look! in the past and have only had positive experiences. Please do not put yourself through the same negative experience I had and avoid Stein.

LISA WAS RUDE!!! There is always a polite way to call and speak to a customer. Thanks to this rude call, I will find a new place. Optometrist stop trying to sell me all the perks, I refuse to pay $491 for ray ban sunglasses. I am dissapointed :(
