ER is WORSE than third world hospitals I have been to. How does UCLA, not to mention residents of Los Angeles, tolerate this? Blood and who knows what else dried into the concrete of the waiting room tent (yes, a tent…a friggin’ tent) and you’re there for hours upon hours. The smell - did I mention the smell? It’s melange of infection, sickness, pot, cigarette smoke and feces - the “perfect” scent for a supposed “place of healing”.
One lady across the tent started coughing and then apologized and explained that she had TB - no staff gave her a mask - but a lot of folks moved away from her! Hospital safety and triage protocols are a joke! No cell signal inside the hospital so it’s very hard or impossible to call for a Lyft or Uber so you can get transport to a REAL hospital - you know, those places where you go to get well - this place isn’t it.
Almost 24 hours for a patient with acute vasculitis to be seen - no water given (even after multiple requests - as one individual had to take medication (blood thinners) and complained they took it over 12 hours late because of the lack of water - which is VERY dangerous. Very little care provided. Staff seemed friendly - they seem to be trying but are woefully understaffed and cannot provide even the lowest standards of care. This is the hospital that Negligence/Malpractice claims and the resulting stories are likely written about - as a warning. The warning being something Dante would pen “abandon all hope ye who enter here”
Psychiatric and unmanaged drug addiction cases everywhere - folks screaming, flailing, stealing from others and causing big problems - with little attention paid to them. They are not managed. Every patient appeared scared or nervous. I grew up in California and have been to what most people would call scary places around the world…and this place gives me the creeps - and that’s not an easy thing to do. To me at least.
Don’t come here - seek care elsewhere. Hospital beds line the halls- after 24 hours while you suffer or bleed out (or whatever your condition) and they FINALLY get you to bed. I am not exaggerating - read the reviews of others (specifically the ER side). Hope comes here to die - as I suspect many of their patients do sadly. If you love yourself or the person you are trying to get care for - please go somewhere else.
For the record - I have never written a review like this but I feel compelled to.

My mother had spine surgery and the doctors and staff were very professional. Highly recommended!
My daughter was hospitalized here due to an eating disorder. She received help and is now doing better. However, I have to give three stars because of one of the nurses, whose name is Roxanne. According to my daughter, she was arrogant, passively aggressive, and impatient with her. Unfortunately, I only learned about this after my daughter was discharged, because she didn’t want us to get into a conflict while she was there. It's pitty that a child gets hospitalized because of some mental issues, and tgen gets traumatized even more... Hopefully, this issue will now be addressed.
Ucla has been the best in care for us. They have great bedside manners excellent doctors, nurses, and overall services. I would highly recommend this hospital to everyone. Truly a great experience. Will continue to visit for all medical needs. By the way we live two hours away and will make the drive for services. Love this place.

I spent 3 weeks in Ronald Reagan hospital in L&D. although I was going through the most traumatic experience of my life, Drs & Nurses in UCLA did everything they good to at least make my stay a pleasant stay. I'm forever grateful for what they did during my stay. I was lucky to stay there, the care they provided impacted a lot after I gave birth. I'm forever in your debt L&D Nurses & Drs.
