Dr. Rojeh Melikian was simply amazing. From the moment I met him, I felt truly cared for. He took the time to walk me through everything with such clarity and compassion, and I never felt rushed or overwhelmed. What really stood out was how quickly he moved to help me, he got me in to see his pain management doctor the very next day, and she was phenomenal as well.
For the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m in great hands. Dr. Melikian’s expertise, kindness, and dedication made an incredibly stressful situation so much easier to navigate. I’m genuinely grateful and can’t recommend him highly enough.

Dr. Melikian is amazing and his team is the best. I was very impressed by every aspect of my experience, Dr. Melikian is very kind and sincere, also very confident and he takes his time to listen to my questions and concerns. He explained all aspects of my procedure and it all went according to what he told me. He installed two artificial M6 Disc's at the surgical center in Marina Del Rey. I was really impressed there too, because it's so specialized all they do are spine procedures, that was very comforting. When Dr. Melikian came to see me after the procedure while I was in recovery he said my surgery was text book, that felt great to hear. Since I know he's done hundreds of these operations, I felt so lucky to have chosen this doctor based off his experience along with him more than living up to all the favorable reviews. I highly recommend Dr. Melikian, his entire team along with everyone at DISC Sports and Spine Center, Marina Del Rey.

Surgery date : June 17, 2021:
I'm almost at 14 days post op from my cervical 2 level disk replacement surgery and I feel like a new person! I had been in pain for a long while with neck arthritis and the last several months were the worst once I started having radiculopathy down my left arm into my fingers. Fast forward to having my MRI reveal bulging cervical disks and stenosis causing root nerve compression and lots of pain. After researching surgeons and interviewing 3, I picked Dr. Melikian. Best choice ever! First he's so nice and easy to talk to which is what put me at ease (and the way you relate and connect with your Doctor is so important) and once my scans were reviewed we sat down and he pointed out the issues that were the cause of my pain, numbness and pins and needles sensations, what severity of my cervical disks were in and he explained what my treatment choices were. Ultimately conventional treatments no longer brought me relief and the only option was to put up with the pain (which I could no longer do) or have the damaged disks replaced. Two weeks later my surgery was done and the moment I woke up the pain in my arm was gone. The surgery went smoothly, the surgical center was awesome (great nurses) and I was home recovering within 24 hours. Recovery has went really well.
From the moment I booked my first appointment with Dr. Melikian his staff (Cecilia) were ON TOP OF IT! Dr. Melikian also emailed with me directly when I had questions and made himself available via phone calls as well. Do yourself a favor and read up on his impressive qualifications/resume before your first visit.
I'm really happy to have found him as my spine health will be in his hands for a long while!

How many locations do you have?
We have three locations and serve all of Southern California. We have offices in Marina Del Rey, Newport Beach, and Los Angeles.
Why is Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery more ideal for patients than open surgery?
Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery has allowed us to achieve the same goals of open surgery but with smaller incisions and less disruption of surrounding tissue. This allows for faster recovery times and better long-term outcomes.
What’s the benefit of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery?
This technique allows for less downtime, faster recovery, and less blood loss. These techniques also allow for surgery to be done outpatient in our surgical center with a zero MRSA infection rate.
What’s Causing My Back Pain?
The most common cause of back pain tends to be from strained muscles. The pain tends to be most severe right after the injury but can gradually worsen over the first few hours. Strain in your back muscles is most often caused by asking too much of them (ie. Lifting a heavy item) or asking them to work for too long (ie. moving boxes all day long at work).
If I’m experiencing back pain, when should I see my doctor?
Most of the time, injuries such as back strain will resolve within a few weeks with rest and anti-inflammatory medications.
Warning signs which should prompt a visit to the doctor include:
• Pain which is getting worse not better
• Pain so severe that you are unable to walk or go about your activities of daily living
• Accompanying weakness, numbness, or tingling.
• Pain that occurs after a fall or accident
• Loss of bladder or bowel control
• You have a history of osteoporosis or compression fracture. For more information on osteoporosis, visit this website to read, “5 Signs Your Osteoporosis May Be Worse Than You Thought. https://www.nextavenue.org/5-signs-your-osteoporosis-may-be-worse-than-you-thought/

When Should I See My Doctor for neck pain?
Most of the time, injuries such as neck strain will resolve within a few weeks with rest and anti-inflammatory medications.
Warning signs which should prompt a visit to the doctor include:
• Pain which is getting worse, not better
• Pain so severe that you are unable to walk or go about your activities of daily living
• Accompanying arm or leg weakness, numbness, or tingling.
• Pain that occurs after a fall or accident
• Loss of bladder or bowel control
• Pain that has not improved after 4-6 weeks of conservative treatment.
• If you are experiencing these symptoms, call your doctor for an appointment so that you can be given a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
How is a herniated disc diagnosed and treated?
To make the diagnosis, your doctor will perform a history and physical exam to see if your symptoms are consistent with a ruptured disc. If appropriate, an MRI of your neck or back will show the exact location and size of the herniation.
The treatment goals are to relieve the discomfort and prevent any permanent injury to your nerves. Treatments range from medications and physical therapy to epidural steroid injections or surgery. Depending on the location and size of the disc, surgical intervention may consist of removing only the piece of the disc that has herniated or removing the entire disc.
What Are My Treatment Options for Degenerative Disc Disease?
After a diagnosis of degenerative disc disease has been made, we will go over your treatment options specific to your particular situation. In the absence of arm or leg weakness, treatment options will always begin with conservative treatments such as physical therapy, anti-inflammatories, and rest. Other options to discuss are when to add acupuncture or chiropractic treatments into your treatment regimen. Surgical treatments can be discussed if conservative treatment fails to provide relief or if you have associated nerve compression causing arm or leg weakness. Depending on the scenario, these can range from minimally invasive decompression surgery to artificial disk replacement or fusion.
