  Hello to those looking through the reviews for Global Lasik and Cataract Institute because you are considering LASIK! I had a positive experience and I’ll try to give those on the fence a detailed summary of my experience just so you know what to expect. I did my free consultation in Pasadena because it was the closest consultation clinic to me, but there are other locations in and around LA that can perform the consultation but the procedure is done in Huntington Beach. CONSULT: For my consultation, the waiting area and the exam rooms looked clean and tidy. The staff was very friendly and professional and the tech (Diana) who helped me did a great job of taking scans and measurements of my eye and explaining the procedure before the ophthalmologist (Dr. Melikia) came in to see me. Dr. Melikian, dilated my pupils, conducted the vision exam, and said my eyes met the criteria needed for LASIK. He was friendly, professional, answered my questions, and went over the procedure and recovery. I was offered 18 months of interest free financing and figured I could pay a couple hundred bucks every month, so I went for it! I put down a $100 dollar deposit and scheduled my procedure. POST-CONSULT: I was told that they only do surgeries on Fridays in Huntington Beach and post-op check-ups on Saturdays. They told me that I would need prescription eye-drops. I guess the prescription is sent to a pharmacy in Irvine, then a few days later they call you to get your billing info, then send the eye-drops (1 anti-inflammatory, 1 antibiotic) over to the LASIK Procedure Center in Huntington Beach for pick-up the day of the procedure. I was in charge of getting “preservative-free” eyedrops that need to be applied after the anti-inflammatory and antibiotic eye-drops. These are not prescription and can be bought at pharmacies. I got a few big boxes at Costco. PROCEDURE: YOU NEED TO HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER to drive you home. They recommended that I dress warmly. The waiting room was truly a melting pot of people and that really comforted me. Diana from Pasadena was my tech for the remainder of my visit and seeing a familiar face helped ease my anxiety. My wife was allowed to be with me from this point on and Diana told us what to expect and went over at-home care. She gave me a sedative to calm my nerves and sat me and my wife down in the movie room with other patients. I watched a goofy comedic movie, had a few laughs, and waited for the sedative to kick in before the procedure. Dr. Youssefzadeh came into the room, introduced himself, then led me to the room where the LASIK would be done and gave me some numbing eye-drops. My wife was not allowed to be with me for this part. They made me lay down on my back on a real comfy bed and lowered the equipment to me. I don’t fully remember all of what happened next but it involved them placing a vacuum on my eye (one at a time) to keep my eye still, make the incision, zap it with the laser, then close the incision. THE WHOLE THING WAS DONE IN ~15 MIN! Dr. Youssefzadeh was very friendly and when I asked him to talk to me while he worked to help me relax, he did so no problem. POST-PROCEDURE: I was allowed to leave almost immediately and given a bag containing after care instructions, eye-shields for sleeping in, REALLY STICKY TAPE, the medicated eyedrops, and an extra sedative to make sure I slept well. Fast-forward 2 months later I'm seeing better than 20/20. Take after-care seriously and use the medicated eyedrops as directed! Personal note: get some sunglasses and/or blue-light filtering glasses because everything will be brighter for a while, get some safety glasses/goggles to wear around the house while doing chores or being around pets and kids (they also help prevent accidental rubbing of eyes), and get some wide-eyed scuba/swim goggles that don't touch your eyeballs to keep soap and water out of your eyes while showering for 1st week.

  Finally got my LASIK surgery here at Global LASIK in Huntington Beach and never been happier. All the nurses and the surgeons are 100 A+ at what they do and make you feel very comfortable. The place is also very clean and the people are very friendly made me very comfortable. Highly recommended! Thank you Global LASIK!

  I absolutely recommend anyone interested in getting lasik eye surgery to come here. Ms. Beverly, Ivanna, and Laraley were the best! They did an amazing job. They always kept me informed and were all very sweet. There enthusiasm is infectious! The entire process was easy and seamless. Both Dr. Bavand and Dr. Melikian did amazing and helped keep me calm through the entire surgery explaining every step and made sure I was comfortable. I highly recommend to others!!! A 10000xxx

  I got PRK last year (exactly a year ago), and I am so glad I did! I've been able to enjoy the super bloom this spring, and also not have to keep on buying glasses every time my boyfriend sits on them! The process was easy. My mom previously got her lasik here several years ago, and my dad also came to this office for lasik many many years ago. So I knew i wanted to come to this office for my eyes! My mom decided to gift me the gift of vision as my graduation present. So i made an appointment for a consultation, and a few weeks later, I came in and got the PRK done! During the surgery, the doctors are really good with keeping you relaxed and calm, and talk you through the WHOLE process every step of the way. Healing time took awhile. Within two weeks, i was able to see clearer but it took about two months for my eyes to adjust completely. So if you're thinking about getting PRK, make sure you're able to get someone to take care of you for awhile (like driving) so you wont have to deal with being blind. They also offer regular checkups to make sure your eyes are healing fine after the surgery. The staff here are amazing! Evelyn and Jonas in the front are very helpful and always accommodating. Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Melikian are so nice and knowledgeable. Awesome office!
