- RRRabsOct 21, 20251.0I bought an electric wheelchair 5 months ago. It broke. I called a few weeks ago for the repair and to see if they have a loaner while I wait. Nope. I have now been told that I must pay for the repair even though it's under warranty. So I finally called a day ago and was told Christine would call me back in 24 hours. I called again and was told that she would call in another 24 hours because each time you call they restart the clock. So now I am told she will call in 48 hours, not 24. This company has given me the run around since I purchased my chair. You are basically punishes by the employees if you call them! Don't purchase from this company if you have a choice!

How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?

Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).

Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
