- HRHayli Ramirez6 days ago1.0I have been waiting since October for a pediatric wheelchair for my son. It is now March and nobody can tell me where it is, when it’s coming and why it’s taking so long, we even went as far as requesting a basic standard pediatric wheelchair without any extra coloring or attachments etc and it has been months since I have heard anything from the actual office my son is being seen at. This delay has caused my son to not be able to have the necessary repairs made to his prothesis because we do not have equipment for him to use while it’s being worked on. It has also been impossible to get ahold of my actual branch my calls are either ignored or hung up on and this is starting to become a really frustrating experience to say the least.

During a time when I was experiencing difficulties and delays with others, Tony went above and beyond to ensure that I received my equipment in a timely manner. He personally made sure it was delivered to me promptly. The chair selected for me is absolutely perfect. It is helping to relieve my pain and improve my posture. I am especially grateful for the height-adjustable feature, something that has made a meaningful and positive difference, It’s difficult, but I am finally learning to stand again. From day one, When Tony assessed me, he assured me that he would help me obtain the equipment I needed, and he fulfilled that promise. I truly believe he deserves the highest recognition for his dedication, professionalism, and compassion. (Give him a BONUS) I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all of the staff members who assisted me along the way, including those who helped with delivering my shower chair and bed. Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
