Properly protecting your hearing involves a combination of measures to prevent noise-induced hearing loss. It’s important to avoid loud noises, and when possible, to use protection which can be purchased on our Online Shop. If you suspect you’re at risk to hearing damage, consult with a hearing professional and get your hearing tested regularly.
When is hearing protection required?
Noise protection is required in any environment where noise levels exceed 85 decibels (dB) averaged over an 8-hour workday. Various occupational safety and health administrations worldwide have established this threshold.
Do noise-cancelling headphones protect hearing?
While noise-canceling headphones can help protect your hearing in noisy environments by allowing lower listening volumes and reducing exposure to harmful noise levels, they should not be considered a substitute for traditional hearing protection devices (HPDs) like earplugs or earmuffs in industrial settings or situations where noise levels exceed safe exposure limits.
Will I be charged for my first visit?
No. We do not charge customers for their initial visit. That would include a complimentary hearing exam and when available, an in-home trial on the latest hearing aid technology.
Can I test out different hearing aids?
Absolutely! We offer trial opportunities for you to experience the comfort and clarity of our hearing aids before making a commitment. You can even explore the latest hearing health care innovations in our immersive Audio Care Experience Room.
What happens during a hearing test?
A typical hearing test involves a series of painless evaluations including Otoscopy (examining ear canals and eardrums), Pure-Tone Testing (listening to tones at various pitches and volumes), Bone Conduction Testing, Speech Testing (measuring ability to hear/understand speech), Tympanometry (evaluating middle ear function), and in some cases Otoacoustic Emissions or Auditory Brainstem Response testing. After testing the audiologist will explain the results and recommend next steps.
Does Medicare or Medicaid cover hearing aids?
Medicare typically excludes hearing aid coverage but does cover diagnostic exams related to hearing and balance if prescribed by a healthcare provider. Some Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans may include hearing aid benefits, but coverage varies by plan. Medicaid provides coverage for hearing aids in more than half of U.S. states; the extent of coverage varies by state. AudioNova recommends checking specific plan details and consulting with an AudioNova expert for personalized guidance.
