A shame that such respectable doctor like Dr. Wong has folk like Amanda managing the store that they work out of.
Amanda, despite being the store manager, seems to have no other way to handle productive feedback, and legit questions about in-store communication, other than by being condescending and rude to patients.
Had received a text earlier in the week thanking me for opting into two-way messaging. Basically, it is texting. It welcomed me to use the texting, instead of needing to call into the store.
Needed to reschedule an exam, so used the texting because I was under the weather, and speaking was a bit painful, but a few hours later had received no response.
Finally called in, and unfortunately got Amanda, whose response to me asking if they are checking their texts was literally “Well, ma’am, we’re very busy, we don’t have time to stop everything to check your texts.“
??!!!
That alone was tempting to just hang up the phone and figure OK, they don’t have time to check their texts, nor to be pleasant to patients, I’ll just skip my appointment. It was a jarring, unnecessary, sarcastic response, and quite the opposite of what you’d hope to hear from anybody working at a medical office, let alone a trusted eye doctor.
We went further into the conversation where she asked me to give her my last name; while she was looking me up, I asked a straightforward question: should I assume moving forward not to use the texting, since you’ve relayed if you’re “very busy” you won’t be checking them?
Instead of a polite response, again Amanda took the opportunity to be rude, remarking, “Well, ma’am, you’re welcome to do what you want, I see you sent this text two hours ago, but when we’re very busy, we can’t just stop what we’re doing to focus on your text“.
All of this unnecessary rudeness when the gist of this was that, yes, texting is not effective at the store, because nobody’s looking out for them; since Amanda never hit the proper training: there are polite ways to handle this Acknowledgment.
The fact that I was sick had no impact on Amanda, she could clearly care less, and the fact that I was struggling to communicate, didn’t matter to her either. Instead of apologizing for her behavior, when I pointed out that she was being condescending and rude, she gleefully asked, “Well would you like to speak to someone else?”
It would be too much to hope that this conversation was recorded, because guaranteed had the store owner, or Dr. Wong any sense that this is how Amanda handles communication with loyal patients, she would be most likely removed from her position. If you’re unable to be kind and polite to patients, particularly those who have called in sick to reschedule, you have no business working ANYwhere, let alone managing a store…
But especially at an office that handles wellness and medical needs.

Taking your child to an optometrist for an eye exam is the best way to learn if your child needs glasses. Many children who need glasses aren’t aware that they do. Signs of vision problems in children include sitting too close to the television, squinting, sensitivity to light, difficulty with eye-hand coordination, and avoiding visual activities like reading and drawing. To see if your child needs glasses, schedule your child’s eye exam today.
Is a contact lens exam different than an eye exam?
A normal, comprehensive eye exam will allow your optometrist to determine if your eyes are healthy enough to wear contact lenses. During your contact lens fitting, detailed measurements of your eyes will be taken to determine the right contact lenses for you. There is an additional fee for a contact lens fitting and evaluation for all contact lens patients (both new and established patients). Schedule your eye exam today to have all of your questions about contact lenses answered.
What is the difference between an eye exam and a vision screening?
A comprehensive eye exam is administered by an optometrist and can detect not only vision problems but problems with eye health and general health as well. A vision screening is typically performed by a general medical practitioner such as a pediatrician or a nurse. While a vision screening can help identify vision issues, it can miss many important issues that a comprehensive eye exam can identify. This is why everyone is encouraged to get annual eye exams. Schedule your eye exam today!
Why should I get an eye exam?
An annual eye exam involves more than just updating your glasses or contact prescription. A comprehensive eye exam can also detect eye health issues as well as general health problems. Conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected in early stages through an eye exam, and this can result in early treatment. Schedule your annual eye exam today.
What should I bring to my eye exam?
You should bring your vision insurance and medical insurance information to your eye exam. If you currently wear any prescription lenses, bring your eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses. You should also bring any and all questions you may have. Contact your optometrist if you have specific questions about any additional items you think you may need to bring to your eye exam.
