Great experience. Was my first time at specsavers inside the Superstore on Grandview Highway and Martin was very helpful, friendly and pleasant. He offered help and his honest opinions rather than trying to make a sale. Gave me space to browse on my own rather than being too pushy. The price breakdown was easy to understand and no hidden fees or extra charges. The only reasons I reduced a star are:
1. I have a wider face and only like adjustable nose frames and most options seem to suit smaller (normal?) more narrow faces. Because they dont have size options for designs, it was rather limited for me. I ended up finding something but ordered same design different colour for my 2nd pair rather than a different design (for variety).
2. I don't know how the lens quality are until I wear it. Like I said, first time and I know they manufacture their own products. There is a saying "you get what you pay for" but I hope it's at least decent. I just couldn't justify the $$ for buying Nikon or Essilor etc. I was quoted $400 at 2 different places for single vision, no name frames, lesser quality lens for 1 pair. $600-700 for anti fatigue, no name frames for 1 pair. Specsavers quoted $490 single vision, no name frames for 2 pairs or $610 for 2 pairs of anti fatigue. Could have been lower if it wasn't for the $250 frames I chose because I couldnt find anything else in the $150 range that suited me. Reality tells me not to expect great at those prices but I am hoping for decent to good.
The sad thing is, frames + lens cost a small fraction like $20 to $30 to manufacture but like everything medical, by the time they make it to consumers, the mark up is x times over. Hence, I think Specsavers is fair for value at this time and they have brick and mortars for you to try (virtual try on is neat but never the same as actually trying on). Fingers crossed they last a few years!

Dr Yang is an excellent optometrist, very professional, kind and informative. His front end staff are very cheerful and made choosing glasses a breeze.
