Surgical (Face)

The signs of aging are gradual, and often make their first appearance on your brow and forehead. Skin begins to lose elasticity, and your temples and brow areas may lose fat and begin to droop. Dr. Dawes can perform a brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, to correct sagging of the forehead skin and improve the brow’s shape and overall appearance. This surgery may also improve the appearance of your upper eyelids. Is a Brow Lift right for me? As with other cosmetic procedures, brow lift surgery is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal. A brow lift may be right for you if: You are bothered by creases or expression/frown lines in the brow and forehead region You have a low or sagging brow that is hooding the upper eyelid Good candidates for brow lift surgery are individuals who: Are healthy, with no underlying medical conditions or illness which may impair healing Have healthy facial tissues and muscles Are non-smokers How Brow Lift Surgery is Performed During a brow lift procedure, Dr. Dawes makes an incision either at the hairline, behind the hairline or in the mid-forehead. He then removes excess skin, tightens loose skin or modifies drooping brows. If necessary, Dr. Dawes may remove part of the muscle that causes vertical frown lines between the brows. Recovery Expectations Recovery time is about one to two weeks. Final results will be long lasting, but may take several months as swelling decreases and incision lines refine and fade. Diligent sun protection and a healthy lifestyle will help maintain and extend your rejuvenated appearance.

Bags or dark circles under your lower eyelids can make you look tired or older than you actually are. Lower eyelid surgery (lower eyelid blepharoplasty) is performed to remove excess skin and fine wrinkles from the lower eyelids, giving you a more youthful and rested appearance. Is lower eyelid surgery right for me? As with other cosmetic procedures, upper eyelid surgery is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal. Good candidates for lower eyelid surgery are individuals who: Are healthy, with no underlying medical conditions or illness which may impair healing Have healthy facial tissues and muscles Are non-smokers Do not have serious eye conditions, such as glaucoma, dry eye or a detached retina How Lower Eyelid Surgery is Performed Dr. Dawes may make an incision just below the lower eyelashes to remove or redistribute bulging fat, correct muscle laxity and/or remove excess skin. The incisions are placed within natural crease lines to help the scars remain unnoticeable. Lower eyelid surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Recovery Expectations Recovery time is about one to two weeks. Final results appear within several weeks, though incision lines may take up to a year to fully refine. Certain conditions may be permanently corrected with lower eyelid surgery; however, natural aging will continue. Continual sun protection will help maintain your final results.

Starting in our 40s, the effects of age, sun exposure, and general stresses start to become apparent in our necks. The neck lift procedure is designed to try to reverse these changes and give the neck a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. If you notice that your neck skin is sagging, or that you have vertical bands in your neck, then a neck lift may be the right procedure to help rejuvenate your appearance. If sagging and laxity are limited to the neck area, a neck lift may be all that is required. This procedure involves an incision under the chin, through which the excess fat is removed and the neck muscles are tightened. Excess skin also may be trimmed away to create a smoother, more youthful appearance. A neck lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with a face lift. Recovery varies from patient to patient, and depends on the extent of the face lift procedure you choose. After your outpatient procedure, you will leave our surgery centre with your head and neck lightly wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed the next day. Most patients find that their discomfort is easily managed with oral medications. You will have some swelling and bruising, and sutures that will be removed approximately 10 days after surgery. Most patients take 10 to 14 days off before returning to work or regular social activities, but sometimes less with the more limited face lift approaches. Your final results will be apparent after approximately 6 weeks, with subtle changes continuing for several months. The Neck lift Consult There is a large amount of information to review during a neck lift consultation. Dr. Dawes will usually spend approximately an hour with you during this consultation to go over all of the surgical details and options prior to creating a custom surgical plan for you that addresses all of your concerns and goals. He will go over risks and complications and give you an idea of what you should expect in terms of results and recovery. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Dawes, call 403-571-3141.

As you age, the skin on your face and neck begins to loosen, folds and fat deposits appear around the neck, deep creases form between the nose and mouth, and the jaw line becomes slack. Factors that contribute to aging include genetics, habits, gravity and sun exposure. Dr. Dawes can perform a surgical facelift (rhytidectomy) to help minimize sagging, drooping and wrinkled skin on the face and neck, and restore a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. Is a facelift right for me? Not all patients are suitable candidates for a facelift—a consultation will help determine if this procedure is right for you. Patients may first be advised to try other, non-permanent solutions such as Botox, fillers and skin rejuvenation. Good candidates for facelift surgery are individuals who: Are physically healthy Are non-smokers Have a positive outlook and realistic expectations of improvement As with other cosmetic procedures, a surgical facelift is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal. A facelift does not change your fundamental appearance, or stop the aging process. How Facelift Surgery is Performed In a traditional facelift, an incision is made following a course from the temple area, around the ear and into the lower scalp. While performing a facelift, Dr. Dawes may: Remove and/or re-drape loose skin Remove or tighten investing muscle fascia Remove fat within the neck, jaw and jowls Transfer fat to the area around your eyes and/or cheeks After draping the skin over the uplifted contours, Dr. Dawes will trim away any excess skin before closing with sutures. A second incision may be made under the chin to improve the aging appearance of the neck.

Surgical (Body)

Liposuction reshapes specific regions of the body, improving body contours and proportions by removing stubborn, unwanted body fat, as well as localized or excess fat deposits. Treatable areas of the body can include the thighs, arms, hips, waist, back, inner knees, chest and chin. Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure but rather a sculpting technique and is most suitable for people who are committed to staying in shape via good nutrition and regular exercise. Overweight patients and those who have experienced significant weight loss may need a combination of liposuction and skin excision procedures. Common areas include the neck, arms, abdomen, love handles, back and bra rolls, buttocks, hips, outer and inner thighs, and inner knees. Is it right for me? As with other cosmetic procedures, liposuction is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal. Liposuction is not a replacement for healthy eating habits and exercise, nor is it a treatment for obesity. Good candidates for liposuction are individuals who: Are physically healthy Have firm, elastic skin Are of average weight or slightly above-average weight Have stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise Are non-smokers Patients with cellulite are not good candidates for liposuction, as they may suffer from skin irregularities. Dr. Dawes can provide you with additional options for the correction of this particular problem. How Liposuction is Performed Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Dr. Dawes will make small incisions in the skin; a cannula is inserted through the incisions and moved back and forth to loosen fat. A surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula is used to suction the dislodged fat out of the body. After the liposuction procedure is complete, the treated area is stitched and bandaged.

A tight, youthful and well-toned abdomen can be difficult to maintain. Factors such as pregnancy, aging, significant weight fluctuations and genetics can contribute to a protruding abdomen with weak and widened abdominal muscles. During a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), Dr. Dawes will remove excess abdominal fat and skin, and can re-approximate separated abdominal muscles – resulting in a smoother and firmer abdominal profile. Is it right for me? As with other cosmetic procedures, a tummy tuck is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal. Good candidates for a tummy tuck are individuals who: Are concerned by a protruding abdomen or sagging abdominal skin Are healthy and maintain a stable weight Are not planning on future pregnancies Have realistic expectations for surgical improvement A tummy tuck is not a suitable method for weight loss. Women planning future pregnancies or individuals wanting to lose a significant amount of weight may be advised to postpone their surgery. How a Tummy Tuck is Performed Typically, the incision extends from hip to hip, along the ‘bikini line.’ The abdominal skin and fat is then separated from your abdominal musculature up to the level of the ribs. The abdominal muscles are then tightened and the excess skin is re-draped, removing the excess or redundant tissue. In most cases, the belly button (umbilicus) will be repositioned to a more anatomically normal position.

Brazillian Butt Lift / Buttocks Enhancement Fat transfer to the buttocks, otherwise known as Brazilian Butt Lifts, are becoming increasingly common, having grown 28% in the US between 2014 and 20151. In 2016, more than 14,000 procedures were performed. The Brazilian butt lift involves utilizing a person’s own fat to naturally augment the buttocks. This can help to: Add volume in deflated areas of the buttocks, creating a rounder, more full or ‘lifted’ bottom Improve overall body contour by removing fat in abdomen, love handles, lower back or other areas where there is excess 1 Annual Procedural Statistics, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2015 Is it right for me? As with other cosmetic procedures, having a Brazilian butt lift is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal. A Brazilian butt lift may be right for you if: You have flattened ill-defined bottom Have excess fat in love handles, abdomen, back and/or hips Are generally healthy and non-diabetic Have a BMI less than 35 Are under 50 years of age Have realistic expectations for buttock re-shaping and volume enhancement How is Brazilian butt lift surgery performed? The Brazilian butt lift procedure is performed in two parts. The first part involves liposuction, where fat is removed through small incisions from areas of the body where it is in excess. These areas are usually the love handles, abdomen, lower back and hIps. The fat is then processed in the operating room and prepared for injection. During the second stage, fat is carefully and strategically injected back into the buttocks, creating a larger and rounder bottom.

A labiaplasty is a procedure designed to help women deal with the embarrassment and discomfort of having large or uneven labia minora (inner labia). Some women are bothered by the feel or appearance of their labia minora protruding or hanging beyond the labia majora (outer vaginal lips). This is an issue that is often the source of much anxiety and embarrassment for women. For many women, large and uneven labia cause pain and discomfort when engaging in sexual intercourse, riding a bicycle, running, or even walking. If you are concerned about the size, shape or unevenness of your labia, Dr. Dawes can advise you of your options for labial reduction and labial rejuvenation. If you are concerned about any of the following then you may be an excellent candidate for labial reduction and rejuvenation: Large labia Uneven labia Labial pain or discomfort during intercourse Labial pain or discomfort while performing activities Women may become more bothered by their labia after childbirth or with age, since there can be some stretching out of the tissues as a result of these events. If you are uncomfortable with the look of your labia or you are experiencing irritation and discomfort as a result of certain types of clothing or activities, labiaplasty may be the right choice for you. While recovery from labiaplasty is usually straightforward, you will still need to take it easy at first. You will need to avoid strenuous exercise for 1-2 weeks. Sexual activity can usually resume after about 4-6 weeks after your surgery. There will be some swelling present for a few days to weeks after your labiaplasty. Dr. Dawes will see you regularly after your surgery to ensure that you are healing well and progressing well.

With the advances made in technology and anesthesia, it is now possible to perform two or even three operations in the same sitting on one patient, and discharge them home after adequate recovery from anesthesia, which is usually quite rapid. Combining these procedures means the patient only has to undergo anesthesia once, and go through the recovery period once. Pregnancy can be extremely hard on a woman’s body. It can leave her with a loose, stretched abdomen, sagging breasts, and excess fat and skin that she just can’t get rid of. There are some parts of the body that diet and exercise simply can’t restore to pre-pregnancy condition. That’s why Dr. Dawes offers the Mommy Makeover. Comprised of various body contouring techniques, the Mommy Makeover is customized for each patient. Amongst the procedures that are most commonly done simultaneously are the following: Tummy tuck and breast reduction Tummy tuck and breast lift or augmentation Breast augmentation and liposuction Breast Lift Women find that their breast tissue becomes stretched from the enlargement associated with pregnancy. While their breasts may be a pleasing size, the excess tissue causes them to have a saggy, unattractive appearance. To correct sagging, the excess tissue and fat is removed and the breast is lifted and reshaped providing a youthful appearance. Breast Augmentation For some women, the breasts lose volume and their attractive shape as a result of pregnancy and nursing. Other women decide that after having a child they are ready to have the breast volume they’ve always desired. The insertion of implants can increase the size and enhance the shape of the breasts. Tummy Tuck To accommodate a growing baby, the abdominal muscles and skin rapidly stretch. This can ruin their elasticity, leaving them weak, and exercise does little to restore firmness. By tightening the abdominal muscles and removing excess fat and skin, a more slender and toned midsection is created. Liposuction The body adds fat during pregnancy to prepare for the baby. Afterward, stubborn fat deposits can remain that diet and exercise can’t seem to remove. Problem areas may include the buttocks, thighs, hips, abdomen, and bra line. By removing excess fat deposits, problem areas are sculpted to have more pleasant contours.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery, developed by Dr. Frederic E. Mohs, has the highest cure rates – 98 percent or higher for Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (the two most common types of skin cancer) – compared to other methods. Mohs surgery eliminates skin cancer cells, while also sparing the greatest amount of healthy tissue. Dr. Jeffrey C. Dawes, Fellowship-Trained Dermatologic Surgeon After having successfully completed his Board certification in Plastic Surgery, Dr. Dawes received fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic surgery through a fully-accredited American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) training program. In Canada, Dr. Dawes is the 17th Mohs surgeon, and one of only two plastic surgeons trained in Mohs. This field, along with post-cancer soft-tissue facial reconstruction, remains his primary academic interest. His unique combination of plastic and dermatologic training allows most patients to have their skin cancers removed and the defect reconstructed on the same day, within the same facility and by the same surgeon. For patients who are out of town or who have limited time or mobility, this arrangement is especially helpful as patient will usually not need a second appointment for the reconstruction of their resultant defect.

Surgical (Breast)

Breast augmentation is a common plastic surgery procedure, sought by those who wish to feel more confident about their body image. This procedure is suitable for women who want to enhance the size of small or asymmetrical breasts, want to restore volume in breasts after weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or want fuller breasts. Smaller breasts or breasts that have lost their previous volume are enlarged using saline or silicone breast implants. During consultation, Dr. Dawes will help determine your implant preference and take measurements. He will also discuss the size, shape and profile of implants that will best suit your body type, to help attain a natural-looking result. Is it right for me? A breast augmentation may be right for you if: You are concerned by the small size of your breasts, feel that your breasts sag (have a flatter or elongated shape), or that your breasts have lost their previous volume One breast is noticeably lower than the other You are looking for a natural-looking, enhanced breast profile Good candidates for breast augmentation are individuals who: Have fully-developed breasts Are healthy and maintain a stable weight Are non-smokers Have realistic expectations for breast augmentation improvement How Breast Augmentation is Performed Dr. Dawes will place the incisions, through which the implants are inserted, either inconspicuously along the red-white junction of the nipple-areolar complex, or underneath the breast. Most breast implants are placed underneath the pectoralis major muscle, though placement over the muscle may be appropriate in a few select instances.

All women’s breasts change over time. Aging, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations and other factors result in loss of youthful contour and firmness. Eventually, the breasts ‘sag.’ This is referred to as ptosis (pronounced ‘toe-sis’), and has multiple levels of severity. A breast lift (mastopexy) can help rejuvenate your figure with a more youthful, uplifted breast profile. Is a breast lift right for me? A breast lift may be right for you if: You are concerned that your breasts sag (have a flatter or elongated shape), or have lost volume Your nipples point downwards or fall below your breast crease You have stretched skin or enlarged areolas One breast is noticeably lower than the other Good candidates for breast lift surgery are individuals who: Are healthy and maintain a stable weight Are non-smokers Have realistic expectations for breast lift improvement As with other cosmetic procedures, breast lift surgery is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal. Not all women with ptosis require a breast lift. In milder cases, ptosis can be corrected with augmentation alone. How Breast Lift Surgery is Performed This procedure raises, firms and re-contours the breast through removal of excess skin and tightening of the surrounding breast tissue. If necessary, the size of the areola (red skin around the nipple) is also reduced in size.

Enlarged breasts in men (gynecomastia) can be caused by a number of factors, including hormonal changes, genetics, diseases, and prescription or illicit drugs (such as marijuana). This condition cannot be eliminated through dieting or exercise. Men with enlarged breasts may experience a host of feelings—including self-consciousness and humiliation. They may also avoid physical activities and intimacy in an effort to hide their condition. The majority of male breast surgery procedures are performed on men between the ages of 13 and 19. In some cases, techniques similar to liposuction are used to remove excess fatty tissue. Others may require surgical intervention, which ranges in complexity depending on the amount of excess breast tissue present. How Male Breast Surgery is Performed Dr. Dawes usually performs male breast surgery on an outpatient basis. This surgery takes approximately one-and-a-half hours to complete, and is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. For excess fatty tissue, liposuction alone may be used. If there is excess skin that needs to be removed, excision techniques may be performed alone or in conjunction with liposuction. During the liposuction procedure, an incision is made around the lower half of the nipple area. A cannula is inserted through the incision and moved back and forth in a controlled motion to dislodge excess fat. The fat is then suctioned from the body. Bandages are applied to the incisions; a compression garment may also be used to minimize swelling. Recovery Expectations Full recovery can take about two to four weeks, and results are usually permanent.

Non-Surgical

Over time, your skin loses its youthful appearance. Aging, sun exposure and acne can leave uneven skin tone, wrinkles, spots or scarring. A chemical peel (chemexfoliation) is considered to be one of the least invasive ways to rejuvenate skin tone and texture, using a chemical solution that removes the damaged outer skin layers. It can be used on the face, neck and back of hands. There are different types and depths of chemical peels. Here at Jeffrey C Dawes Plastic and Dermatologic Surgery we offer superficial peels or medium depth peels, depending on your skin concern and desired result. They use Glycolic, Lactic or Salicylic Acid as a peeling agent. This procedure takes approximately 45 minutes to perform and is usually repeated in a series of four to six treatments for optimal results. Our Registered Nurse/ Skin Care Expert will evaluate your skin and recommend an appropriate treatment course. Conditions Improved by Chemical Peels The chemical peel is indicated for a variety of skin types and conditions including: Acne or acne scars Age, sun and liver spots Rough texture Congested skin Uneven skin tone Fine lines and wrinkles Freckles Melasma Enlarged pores Irregular skin pigmentation Rough skin and scaly patches Superficial scaring Sun-damaged skin Large or congested pores Sensitive skin, inflammation/redness/blotchiness Jessner + Peel The Jessner Plus peel is a popular medium-depth peel that provides a gentle, controlled exfoliation of damaged skin. One of its primary ingredients is salicylic acid, which penetrates the skin, clearing congested pores and removing dead skin cells. The Jessner Plus peel is gentle enough to allow you to return to your normal activities right away and is considered the ‘go-to’ for those looking to address everyday skin issues such as fine lines, large, pores, discoloration and acne. SkinCeuticals Gel Peel SkinCeuticals has developed integrated medical grade skincare treatments with step-by-step protocols to help address specific skincare needs and deliver optimal, tailored results. At the core of these is the Gel Peel. The SkinCeuticals Gel Peel combines 20% gycolic acid and 10% lactic acid to help target discoloration, skin tone, radiance, fine lines/wrinkles and pore congestion without over-drying the skin. Additional treatment protocols utilize the power of SkinCeuticals’ medical-grade products to address particular skin concerns. Based on your skin health history, Our Registered Nurse/ Skin Care Expert will determine which Gel Peel treatments would work best for you. Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox, Xeomin) The administration of botulinum toxin type A is one of the most highly recognized non-surgical cosmetic procedures available today with an estimated 4.5 million procedures performed in the US in 20161. When administered by a skilled professional, it is a safe and effective treatment for dynamic wrinkles (those that deepen when a muscle contracts), as well as for excessive sweating. 1 Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank Statistics, American Society of Plastic Surgery. 2016. Effective Wrinkle Treatment Botox is one brand of botulinum toxin type A, a purified toxin produced by the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Another, similar brand used in our office is called Xeomin. They both work by blocking the release of a natural chemical called acetylcholine, which triggers the muscle contractions that create wrinkles. When injected, it paralyzes muscles and temporarily prevents them from contracting. Within the next 3-5 days, the injected muscles begin to weaken, thereby diminishing or preventing wrinkles caused by the contracting muscles. Botulinum toxin type A is commonly used to treat the following areas: Frown lines between the eyebrows Forehead wrinkles Crow’s feet Lip depressors Neck bands Our trained staff will evaluate your skin thickness, type, degree of wrinkling and personal goals for the most effective use of botulinum type A toxin injections. This procedure is often combined with other skin rejuvenation procedures like dermal fillers for minimally-invasive enhancements to your overall appearance. Excessive Sweating (Hyperhydrosis) Botulinum toxin type A is also a safe, effective treatment for excessive underarm sweating when anti-perspirants or other topical treatments are ineffective. Botox has been shown to decrease perspiration by up to 87%. How Botulinum Toxin Type A Injections are Performed Following an analysis and a discussion of your desired outcome, the procedure itself takes about 15 minutes to perform. A minute amount is injected very precisely into the areas being treated. Discomfort associated with the injection is minimal (often compared to the sensation of a bug bite). No sedation or local anaesthetic is required, although topical anaesthetic is available upon request.

For a more youthful appearance without undergoing surgery, dermal fillers may be an effective option. Hyaluronic acid, the most commonly used dermal filler is synthesized from a purified, inert and non-biologically active substance present within our own skin. Dermal fillers can add youthful volume, lift and enhance the shape of the face, improve the appearance of recessed scars and smooth out facial wrinkles – offering some of the benefits of surgical facelifts without the downtime. This procedure is often combined with other skin rejuvenation procedures including botulinum toxin type A and/or laser resurfacing. Dermal fillers have many uses, can be tailored to your needs and can be used in conjunction with BOTOX® (called a Soft Lift™). Dr. Dawes and/or his Nurse injector use a number of unique dermal fillers—during your consultation, they will assess your needs and recommend the right treatment plan for you. Your dermal filler formula is ordered on an individual basis, based on their recommendations. Results from dermal filler treatments can last anywhere from four months to two years. You may require additional injections to achieve desired results. Areas that can be Improved by Dermal Fillers Restore brow height Improve hollowing (sunken appearance) around temples Restore ‘hollowed’ appearance of upper and lower eyelids Achieve more pronounced cheek bones Restore more-youthful smile lines (nasolabial folds) Achieve fuller, more balanced lips Correct down-turned mouth corners Smooth facial contours Improve ‘jowls,’ and restore a more youthful jawline Balance chin profile relative to nasal projection Erase protruding veins and tendons in the hands

ProFractional™ 2940 nm – This laser ‘aerates the lawn’, precisely drilling clean, micro-channels into the skin – covering only a small portion of the treatment area to help achieve excellent results without the downtime associated with full-field laser resurfacing. Heat can be added for increased effect. ProFractional treatment stimulates new collagen growth and improves skin’s tone, texture, fine lines, deeper wrinkles and the appearance of scars. Since only a fraction of the skin is treated at once, optimal results require a series of treatments. Only a fraction of the skin surface is treated at each session. The computer-generated pattern of the laser creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. Our laser technician can customize the depth of these channels to the needs and features of the patient’s skin and to the amount of downtime that is practical for the patient. The untreated skin adjacent to the treated area allows for much more rapid healing than in conventional laser resurfacing, in which 100 percent of the skin surface is ablated. As the skin heals, new collagen is deposited resulting in better skin quality. The benefits of ProFractional include increased patient comfort, shorter healing times, and results that can range from subtle to dramatic.

Laser Vein therapy is an easy non invasive treatment options to reduce or rid your skin of unwanted spider veins. Treatment takes only a few minutes, and requires no anesthesia with minimal discomfort. Is laser vein therapy treatment right for me? Laser Vein therapy is an excellent option for men and women who are seeking treatment options to reduce the appearance of spider veins. Each skin condition is unique, a consultation may be required to determine the best treatment options. Am I a candidate for laser vein therapy? Good candidates for laser vein therapy are individuals who are looking to: Reduce the appearance of spider veins Restore youthful looking skin Results are gradual and it is recommended that 2-3 treatments, 4 to 6 weeks apart are required to achieve optimal results. How is laser vein therapy performed? Your doctor or healthcare professional uses a laser to send strong bursts of light into the vein which causes the blood in the vein to coagulate which will eventually destroy the vessel making the vein fade and disappear over time. There are no incisions or needles required with this process. Recovery Expectations There is little to no downtime with laser treatment, however it is recommended that any vigorous activity be avoided for the first 24 hours after treatment. The treated area will become pink and the vein may be swollen temporarily and resemble a cat scratch. There should be little to no discomfort. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light, and you must avoid direct sun exposure. You need to cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors. Results will be slightly visible at the time of treatment and will significantly improve with 2 to 6 weeks of the treatment. Typically 2-3 treatments are required.

Exceptional results with a few comfortable and typically fast treatments. Forever Bare BBL is a comfortable treatment with virtually no downtime. During the treatment, pulsed light delivers photothermal energy to hair follicles. The rapid, short pulses of light or photothermal energy causes the hair follicle to stop producing hair without harming any surrounding tissue. Any area of your body can be treated. Typically 6 treatments 4-8 weeks apart (depending on the area) are required. We also have a 1064nm Nd: YAG laser which is highly effective for hair removal for darker skin types. At Jeffrey C Dawes we are able to treat all patients for hair removal, regardless of skin colour. Some redness and slight swelling of the hair follicles may be present in the area that has been treated. However, this should subside within a few hours. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light for a couple weeks after treatment, and you must avoid direct sun exposure. You need to cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.

Latisse is a growth treatment for hypotrichosis, referring to inadequate or not enough eye lashes. Originally used as a glaucoma medication, Latisse (aka bimotoprost) is the first FDA-approved treatment clinically proven to grow lashes. While the mechanism of action isn’t entirely understood, it is effective in only growing new lashes, but also to dramatically thicken and darken existing lashes. It is an exciting alternative for those looking to grow their own lashes for a healthy, youthful and natural look.
