Club Pilates Burnaby is a boutique Pilates studio specializing in reformer fusion classes for anyone, at any age or fitness level. Pure to Joseph Pilates’ original Reformer-based Contrology Method, but modernized with group practice and expanded state-of-the-art equipment, Club Pilates offers high-quality, life-changing training at a surprisingly affordable price.
I was excited to learn of a reformer studio opening up close to me. I signed up as a member before the studio opened. When I saw the studio was offering introductory classes, I called the studio to take a class and was informed that members would not be allowed to take this class. I found this odd as it advertised as a way to introduce you on the machine. Why wouldn’t members be allowed to benefit from this session, especially those new to reformer machines? I have taken reformer classes before so I didn’t bother me too much and attended my first class as a member when the studio opened. I was confused on the sequence of the repetitions wasn’t explained properly. The instructor did not demonstrate how to use the machine by using it herself as an example, which is usual for other reformer studios, especially knowing this is the first day for members. Although I have used a reformer machine before, this one is still new and being told explanations over the microphone and never being shown can be intimidating for someone brand new. The flow of the class was as though we were all tenured members. I realized during some movements too late that my form was off, either by looking around me or when the instructor adjusted me. A curtain separating the studio room from the lobby would be beneficial to avoid distractions by members coming in, talking and noises. The front desk and instructor did not welcome me the way most studios do. Only said hello to the group or coming in. Being personable with the clientele builds community. I was disappointed to view online here that there was a meet & greet members attended but I did not receive this invitation. I am very active in the gym and enjoy taking classes around the city. This is my first time becoming a member to a studio and it has not been a great start to my membership journey but I’m hopeful. I’m excited to be apart of the community. My review will adjust in a month’s time throughout my experience.
