    From the friendliness of the folks at the front desk both check in and check out. To the friendliness of the dr and assistant I saw as well as the cleanliness of the office. All was a great experience. Actually wants me to visit the dentist more often.

    Poor experience, steer clear! I wound up visiting Gentle Dental Desert Winds because they are an in-network provider through my insurance. However, in hindsight I definitely should have referenced their reviews and track record before dealing with them. 2.2/5 stars speaks volumes of how they consistently come up short and their dealings with their patients, I guess I’m not the only one with whom they’ve dealt dishonestly. I went in for a routine cleaning and check up to see if I needed any fillings. I was very clear that I only wanted the work performed that would be covered by my company-based insurance plan, no extra extras, add-ons, upsells or frills. I asked for pricing transparency and simple honest treatment. Unfortunately, that proved too much to ask. From the onset, they started in with recommending treatments that my dental hygienist and dental assistant family members assured me were unnecessary, I kindly declined and reminded them that if those additional treatments weren’t covered by my insurance, then I didn’t want them. After the initial assessment, I was told that we could proceed with the cleaning, and that I had a few cavities that would need to be filled. We proceeded with the cleaning immediately and I asked them to verify with my insurance that the fillings would be covered before we addressed them. At the end of my first appointment they supposedly verified that the fillings would be covered by my insurance so we scheduled another appointment a few days later. When I returned, Dr. Nguyen filled my cavities and did a fair job. She was kind and approachable but when I mentioned that the fillings still snagged the floss, we arrived at a point in which she shrugged and said, “that’s the best we can do”. I suppose a hack job of a filling is better than a cavity, but I wouldn’t call it fine dental work. On my way out, I confirmed with the front desk that my account was up to date, insurance had covered the services and there were no outstanding payments due, they agreed and I went on my way. But THEN I got a follow up bill after the fact stating that my insurance hadn’t covered the treatment I received DESPITE my insistence that I only wanted to receive treatments that were covered by the insurance. Nevermind the reassurance the front office of Gentle Dental Desert Winds had initially given me that they had confirmed my insurance plan, it turns out that was more of a guess-timate than an assurance of coverage. When I spoke with the billing manager, I was led to believe that I should have spoken with my insurance company to verify coverage myself and that they had only made sure that I had insurance coverage generally. I felt like I had been misled and given poor information. I will NOT be going back for another round of mediocre care and billing smoke and mirrors. Lesson learned, they can’t be taken at their word and if you dare trust them with your care, be prepared to cough up extra funds after the fact (even if they say otherwise initially).

    Priscilla led the oral cleaning today. She is extremely knowledgeable and listened closely when I shared about the hydro cleaning being a pain point for me. Priscilla expertly completed the cleaning and ensured I was pain-free the whole time. Honestly one of the best dental experiences I’ve had.
