- TWterry wiggintonFeb 21, 20265.0Our experience was great. Thank you Chris for your tireless efforts in procuring the necessary documentation for my sisters power chair. She was approved by her physician but we couldn't get the office staff to send in the paperwork. Chris tried for several weeks to get this done and always keep me posted on his efforts. After finally getting the documentation, he got started on the chair. I can not thank Pam enough for her efforts. Pam in customer service (not in funding) figured out that my sisters secondary insurance had accidentally been left off the paperwork and she made sure the proper information was added and this kept us from having to pay a 1000.00 deductible. Pam was also very personable and called me back every time she said she would. Thank you Pam for your concern for my sisters well being. Also, thank you David the field technician, who graciously accepted our Noah's ark of family pets when he delivered the chair. He explained and demonstrated the features of the chair with alot of patience and understanding to 2 individuals who had never used a power chair before. I can't speak for other clients but we had a 5 star experience all the way. Thank you again Chris, Pam and David.

We’ve made repeated calls with no response from corporate and no coordination between the local and national offices. This company essentially controls a large part of the wheelchair market, and that kind of monopoly leaves families like ours without options or accountability. People rely on this equipment — it’s not a luxury, it’s their legs. Something has to change. The government and healthcare agencies need to address this lack of oversight so families don’t have to fight for what’s medically necessary.

To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?

Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
