    My mother was a patient of Nurse Practitioner Lisa Owen in 2023 when she needed a dialysis catheter. After a vascular surgeon expressed serious concerns about safely performing the procedure, I returned to Nurse Owen seeking guidance and a second opinion. Instead of feeling supported, I experienced delays in my mother’s care and was made to feel blamed and discouraged for advocating on her behalf. This was a very difficult and frightening time for my family, and I did not feel we received the compassion or professionalism that patients and families in crisis deserve. I hope that by sharing our experience, future patients and families will be treated with more understanding and support during critical moments of care.
