So far I'm not having a good experience. My tour included two rooms and I have no idea where any classes are held. I ask questions and nobody knows answers or offers to find them out. The staff isn't unfriendly but also not personable- I feel like I'm on my own with figuring out anything unless I want a personal trainer, which I don't bc my questions aren't about how to work out. They lack basic pool equipment and don't even know what basic pool equipment is- I'm trying to keep an open mind but right now my expectations are low
UPDATE
my experience did not improve after 6 weeks. Here is my experience.
music is 75% really bad club music and 25% 90s dance hits. staff doesn't say hello to people and when you ask questions they are trying to get rid of you or just say I don't know but don't offer to find out. when you press for answers, they handle it poorly.
bathroom does not have good space for getting dressed, so it could be more woman friendly.
the recovery room is only for cold natured people- as massage tables are heated (wondering how use of this will go when it is over 100 outside) and air is kept fairly warm for working out- sometimes the fans are not even turned on which if you are hot natured, could cause overheating. The pool area is very strong in chlorinamine fumes despite being a salt water pool which after looking up I am told this is due to improper ventilation/poor cleaning in proportion to use of pool. not good if you have asthma or are chemically sensitive- it is much stronger smelling than indoor chlorine pools.
I talked to the manager about ordering basic lap swimming equipment, and after having to tell him what a kickboard was he said he would order it. when I followed up, the front desk gave me the run around and told me to "go find out for myself" and when I asked to speak with whom I had spoken before, they passed me off to the sales team which started the run around over again. by this time I had repeated myself several times and finally they manager was retrieved, which was the person I was trying to get from the beginning. when he came out, the very first sentence out of his mouth was name calling me and as he proceeded to tell me he had no intention of getting supplies for the pool insulated me twice with poor wording that came off like accusations on my character. He also gave me the impression that the staff and he had bad mouthed me behind my back, as the insult he started with distinctly revealed that. I left the gym and about 30 minutes later called to cancel. the front desk person told me I had to go online, where it told me to talk to the front desk person (apparently he didn't want to deal with helping me on this? and also let me know he was unknowledgeable about cancellations or my type of membership and didn't offer to find out) I asked for the manager and without checking, the front desk person told me the manager was too busy to to talk to me and would call me back. he did not call back. I emailed corporate and am still waiting to hear back. also, I found out that most people are under contract for a year even if they hate it- so buyer beware. if you value friendliness and support when needed- or good music, or or hot natured or just need somewhere to put things when you get ready- you wont find those here
I've worked at 2 gyms in my life and have belonged to 5- and this was the worst staff I have ever interacted with. I have never had such a negative experience that made it not worth the drive to go workout. I drove immediately to a YMCA and everyone was so friendly- it felt like a weight was lifted and replaced by friendliness and joy. I really wish I could make the south beautifully and give these people a plane ticket back home. Thank goodness I had a corporate membership and could cancel- not that anyone is making that easy. I will probably have to get the HR dept involved to have anyone help me, we will see. 1 star. do not recommend
