I've been myopic in Calgary for 25 years... With two young myopic kids the last 10. Used several independent vision care places, been to larger franchise places, did a stint buying from Costco, Clearly... Contacts, glasses, progressives, etc.
I can say that Specsavers was THE most thorough eye evaluation for both myself and my kids. They were the FIRST that bothered to make sure we were picking the right FRAME SHAPE for the kids' myopia-control glasses... Wonder why they never seemed to make much difference in kids' prescriptions before?!
I had a wonderful experience - Brent the Optometrist was just awesome... Jason with the no-pressure breakdown on price... Gale & Laura all helping to pick frames were firm, fair yet friendly about appropriate choices for frame shapes and material (my choices were limited)... They know their stuff. All of the staff I encountered seemed genuinely pleasant and happy to be there.
Decent selection of frames. Amazing prices if you catch their Spring sale.
I'll update the review once I get my glasses but the exam and shopping experience there so far was just so great I had to give them preliminary props!

If you’re paying a $120 for an eye exam, you should not quibble about doing a PD measurement that takes 20 seconds to do!

My daughter came in with a swollen eyelid feeling quite uncomfortable and the employees were a wonderful help and able to accommodate my daughter. They were able to shuffle some appointments around to have the doctor take a look at what is going on. There was a younger manager who was helping us out and she was very kind and accommodating. I would highly recommend SpecSavers based on our experience.

I regret having gone to Specsaver. First time went to store which had closing sale inside Superstore using name: PRINGLE & THEODORE. Prices were excellent for frame and glasses and optometrist was a nice fellow. When I ask if they have warranty since store closes YES, full warranty. Sadly so i was not having good eyesight when wearing new glasses and when I went back I was told store is now closed and to go to Specsaver. Apparently they had bought out the Pringle & Theodore. Went there, lady, after some back and forth conversation said, after resistent at first, ok and had another eye examination were that Dr. Theo Buzea came up with his result which was a HUGE difference in prescription. Ok, so? JESSICA part owner now tried to give me some cheap frames but I told her No, the frames I have are expensive but discounted just change lenses. She argued it can't be done because new lenses don't fit into these frames once fitted. I stood firm ( I knew better) and after some talking with her head office my paid frames were send out to be fitted with the new corrected lenses. P.S. I MUST SAY AT THE TIME DID NOT LIKE THE DR. there. He talked down the Dr. I first saw. But I was there to get proper glasses and not to get married so I remained silent. When new glasses arrived and I was called I could NOT see. Bi-focels had double line and letter vision and ways to low, also everything was HUGE and looking to side all swam. Jessica told me I have to wear them at least a minimum of 1 month to adjust my eyes. Ok, fair. So, at home I wore them during mornings but could never read with them lines double and not clear at all and to low. The lenses did not make me see safe and I felt very insecure. Did not dare to use them outside driving. THE LENSES WERE WAYS WRONG the first one were much better. But because Dr. Theo who is suppost to be a trained specialist put his colleague down telling me the lenses are wrong for my eyes. Saying I had cataract. So back I went again went but this time Dr.Theo had me tested again and after saw me telling me these glasses are the right one and my choices were ( he would NOT correct them again) surgery or GET USED TO THEM. P.S. I tried 2 month to get used to them but again could not read, not safely see. Also side view was total blurry and gave vertigo. He was adamant that's all he will do. My reply was recently had a complete professional eye check and this is what I was told: you have some cataracts and we ought to keep an eye on it! So,much for Dr. THEO. He also made sure to have Jessica his partner present while this exchange was going on..witness, even so both denied such. What insult! Do both think I am stupid. Regardless he was intetruptive cutting always in to my say, and I found him aggressive in his mannerism. Specsaver most likely is a place for single vision, and cheap frames and cheap lenses. Yes, there are significant differences in the glass used for lenses. There is FLINT vs. CROWN, Eyeglass Lens Materials.
While many modern eyeglasses use "organic glass" (plastic), true, natural glass is still used for specific benefits. Also, there are different qualities in glass and plastic. So, best always to ask. You pay what you get. In my case I do not trust the interaction between Dr. Theo Specsaver @ Southpark Shopping Center in his knowledge nor want to support any business which is arrogant and belittling to me. Since I can see well with my now old glasses I will take this to next steps available to me, and there are many. PEOPLE, know when you see all them 5 STARS pls know company's, IN THIS CASE FRANCHISES, contract out professional REVIEW WRITERS, Marketing company's and Review pushers who IF there is bad reviews they push them out and WRITE positive reviews. Do not trust them ALL PERFECT STARS. I know i was in business for over 30 years. It is my opinion presented here and not intended to influence you. P.S. you pay for what you get. Had I known they are Specsaver never would have bought from them. I hear of to many horror story's and experienced such myself.
