We came to Specsavers for an OCT eye test for my 78-year-old mother-in-law, who had recently experienced a severe case of vertigo along with double vision, confusion, and other concerning symptoms. Our goal was to rule out anything serious and get clear answers. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. When we were finally seen, the optometrist, Madonna Oranugo, was very short and lacked patience. My mother-in-law was already struggling to understand instructions due to her symptoms, and instead of working with her, there was little effort made to accommodate her needs. During the testing, my mother-in-law had difficulty staying perfectly still, which is understandable given her condition. The machine repeatedly lost alignment, and although it was adjusted a couple of times, the optometrist eventually just pushed through without properly repositioning her. This was especially concerning because we had already seen another optometrist who advised us to get the OCT scan for a more accurate diagnosis. I was aware that her left eye was worse than her right, so when we were given a prescription that was identical for both eyes (-1.00 and +2.50), it immediately raised red flags. It felt rushed and not reflective of her actual condition. To make matters worse, when I requested a copy of her exam results—especially the OCT scan—I was told they would not provide them. I explained multiple times that we were on a time crunch, as she was returning to Newfoundland and needed to go elsewhere for glasses due to their 2-week turnaround time, but they still refused. After confirming with another optometrist that we are legally entitled to these records, I called back and was met with more resistance. We were told that the other clinic would need to send a consent form. We did that immediately (Monday morning before 11am), yet by Tuesday afternoon, the results still had not been sent. I followed up again while we were at the eye doctor and now waiting for this information and was told they now needed additional consent from their optometrist—even though she had worked the previous day. She was not in the next day, and as of Wednesday evening, we still had not received anything, even though they knew the urgency. When I expressed my frustration and urgency with this matter, I was met with the response: “well, she is pregnant.” That is not an acceptable explanation for poor service, lack of communication, or withholding medical records. To add to the experience, there is no public washroom available for customers, which is incredibly inconvenient—especially for elderly patients. I was told to take my mother-in-law, who uses a walker, to a nearby business, which meant loading her back into the vehicle. Completely unacceptable. In the end of her appointment on Tuesday with the first optometrist her actual prescription is just needing a +1.50 reader for both eyes, and is actively wearing that prescription which further confirms that what was provided during this appointment was inaccurate and rushed. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience during what was already a stressful medical situation. I would not recommend this location unless you are a pretty straight forward case that dont need extra attention or time!

I had a very disappointing experience at this store. I came here for an eye exam and ordered progressive glasses. I paid about $600 for them, but they are basically unusable for computer work, the screen remains blurry no matter how I adjust the monitor height, distance, or my seating position. I have tried multiple setups, and nothing has helped. When I went back to explain the problem, the older lady working there was extremely dismissive and refused to listen. Instead of trying to troubleshoot, she kept blaming my computer monitor, my posture, and my distance from the screen. She refused to accept that the lenses might not be suitable for my needs or that something could be wrong with the measurements. I left feeling frustrated, unheard, and out $600 with no workable solution. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this store to anyone who needs an eye exam or glasses. If you still decide to go, be very careful and make sure you are comfortable with how they handle issues or complaints.
