The year was 1943, and Jim and Alice Wimmer decided to take a big risk, buying a small existing roadside restaurant known for its char-broiled steaks. How fitting that in 2018, the restaurant’s 75th anniversary year, the third generation of Wimmers, Amy Wimmer, takes the helm from her father Jeff and his wife Jane, bringing her own adventurous spirit to the Del-Bar, the same kind of spirit she so admired in her grandparents.
Rich History • 75 Years & 3 Generations • Award Winning Cuisine
While flattering comparisons to steakhouses in Chicago and New York are regularly made by visitors, Amy Wimmer still cherishes this restaurant, her family restaurant, as one-of-a-kind.
Stunning place. Make sure you sit at the bar for a while, and just take in the amazing ambiance. The food was amazing, steak was perfect. I only give a 1-star less than perfect because the weeknight we were there for dinner, we were celebrating our anniversary, and our hostess and server were aware of that. Up until we were seated at a table in a very undesirable, looks added-on room, full of families with young children. The fireplace was not on, and our tanle was right next to an emergency exit door. It felt like we were at a Dennys at that point. The server seemed frazzled and hurriedly asked us more than once for our order, but never asked if we'd like another cocktail. I would have had another, if everything wasnt so rushed. Note to future diners: If they start leading you through the entire beautiful establishment, to a very plain back room at the south end of the entire establishment, request a nicer table.

You must go here. The BEST dinner experience in the Dells. Amazing service, food, and ambience. Sat at the bar and Nadia is the most attentive, sweet, and chill waitress I have had in my life. We felt so taken care of and she even brought out a little surprise for my husband's birthday! We had riveting conversation with others sitting at the bar. The fresh raw oysters, cheesy french onion soup, sizzing hot escargot, savory bread, and rich chocolate cake were out of this world! They stop taking food orders at 9 pm, so make sure you get in before then! I can't wait to go back. *chef's kiss*

This restaurant trancends the 5 star rating system. Friends that have been going for forty years tell us this is their favorite in the dells. I have to rave about the food. Whether the sea scallops or the tenderloin for your entree is incredible. The appetizer I enjoyed most was the stuffed mushrooms while my wife pronounced the clam chowder the best since the little place across from Plymouth Rock.

Beautifully classic supper club from the booths to the jazz and rat pack vibes from the music to impeccable service. Everything we tried was wonderful with my husband dubbing their fish fry as the best he has ever had and we've experienced our fair share of Wisconsin fish fries. Additionally, our waiter, Alexander, was absolutely amazing, especially with our children and made them feel so special. We are already working to figure out when we can get back to town just so that we can come back and have dinner there again!

We had an excellent dinner at Del-Bar and will definitely be back. We started with the salmon pot stickers, which were a unique and delicious way to kick off the meal.
The Caesar salad was a real standout—it had a perfectly zesty dressing and didn't shy away from the anchovies, which made for a great, authentic flavor profile. For the main, the salmon portion was solid and cooked beautifully. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared.
The only slight knock is that the dining room was very loud, making it a bit difficult to hold a conversation at times. However, the quality of the food more than made up for the noise level. If you're looking for a consistent, high-quality meal, this is the spot. Highly recommended!
