The year was 1943, and Jim and Alice Wimmer decided to take a big risk, buying a small existing roadside restaurant known for its char-broiled steaks. How fitting that in 2018, the restaurant’s 75th anniversary year, the third generation of Wimmers, Amy Wimmer, takes the helm from her father Jeff and his wife Jane, bringing her own adventurous spirit to the Del-Bar, the same kind of spirit she so admired in her grandparents.
Rich History • 75 Years & 3 Generations • Award Winning Cuisine
While flattering comparisons to steakhouses in Chicago and New York are regularly made by visitors, Amy Wimmer still cherishes this restaurant, her family restaurant, as one-of-a-kind.
Overall, customers praised the food quality, particularly the steaks and appetizers, though some noted inconsistencies in seasoning and preparation.
Service Excellence
Many reviews highlighted exceptional service, with staff being described as friendly, attentive, and accommodating.
Atmosphere
The ambiance was frequently mentioned as beautiful and cozy, contributing positively to the dining experience.
Reservation Issues
Some customers experienced delays in seating despite having reservations, which affected their overall experience.
Value for Money
While many felt the food was worth the price, a few reviews indicated that some dishes did not meet expectations relative to their cost.

Amazing atmosphere, even better food and service. Our waiter Melissa was the sweetest lady ever and helped us take our family photo too! Everything was so perfect and the music playing completed the vibe. HIGHLY recommend and we will be coming back.

Man oh man where do I even begin. My wife and I went here for my birthday celebration. First time being here. The ambience was beautiful with the live music, friendly staff, and there was plenty of space. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and made sure we knew what we were ordering. I had the best Filet Mignon of my life. It was soft, juicy and cooked to perfection. It couldn't have been cooked any better. Next time I am out of town, I will definitely be visiting again. I loved it.

My husband and I brought our two kids (age 4 and 5) here for dinner. I would recommend a reservation for a Saturday night which is what we did. Our server was very friendly and patient with the kids. The food was outstanding! We ordered shrimp cocktail and raw oysters to start. Both were very good and tasted fresh. We then shared steak, jumbo scallops, and veggies for our dinner. Everyone loved it and the scallops were an especially big hit. I would highly recommend!

Amazing first experience at the Del-Bar. Traveled from the Milwaukee area.
Went with a 4 and 1 year old and they were incredibly accommodating. Highchair, kids menus, applesauce for the kids. Upscale without feeling stuffy- especially with children. Felt super comfortable.
Food was amazing- husband had the ribeye and I had walleye- incredible quality and delicious.
A true gem that understands the meaning of being family friendly without compromising quality.
Thank you Del-Bar!

This place has been widely referred to as the best restaurant in Wisconsin. That may be a stretch because I certainly do love my dive bars and supper clubs up in Barron, Rusk, Sawyer and Washburn counties that I frequent. Del Bar is certainly a find though!
Old-school place. Supper club style. Fantastic bottle collection behind the bar. Actually managed a couple of measures of Col Taylor, which is always a rare find.
Best-kept secret is their happy hour. Discounted apps come with a 2-drink minimum and are absolutely fantastic (pot stickers less so than Escargot, Scallops or the half-shell oysters I ate) and they knock 25% off your bar bill.
You're still going to drop a hundo per person during their happy hour but it's very much worth it for the quality and expert preparation!
