SafeHouse is Milwaukee’s best-kept secret since 1966! Find the iconic Red Door in an alleyway near the Milwaukee River and provide the correct password for entry. Once inside, spies can explore authentic espionage artifacts, delicious eats, and spy-themed cocktails.
Cute spy themed restaurant with various little rooms. We had a reservation so it would’ve been nice to have a quaint little area like several were tucked away and empty, but we got a table in one of the main rooms by other people. Food was very average. I had a pulled pork sandwich, which was the parses pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had…usually they’re overflowing…. this was the other extreme, a couple of measly little pieces of pork on a cheap bun. Asked waiter for a little extra time in choosing what we were going to eat, but then we were obviously ready and had to wait a lot of extra time. Also took a while to get our food. If you’re into the kitschy theme then try it out, but once it’s more than enough.

Horrible experience. A very long wait for food. Service was horrible. The manager did give our party a discount for the issues however looking at my visa account I was overcharged. Brought company from out of town and was so disappointed. The place was fun at first but waiting over a hour for food and not even the waitress checking up on us was not worth it. I won’t be going back there unless it’s a credit for the overcharge. The food was good but I was extremely hungry by the time the food arrived I didn’t even enjoy it.

Food was terrible. The Cuban sandwich was ridiculous pic attached. 1 slice of ham folded and a half scoop of some disgusting previously frozen pulled pork . I sent it back it was so pathetic, got the fish tacos instead. Again fail. Disgusting fish fingers frozen from some box. 2 piece of cabbage. And the tortillas were oddly cooked. Can’t tell if microwaved or salamandered for a few seconds. But turned hard in 3 mins. My son enjoyed his burger. Fun place for sure, but just grab a quick Side of fries or onion rings. Eat dinner elsewhere.

Incredible theming. Restaurant was very fun to explore and just sit in. We had 2 appetizers (Thunderballs and cheese curds)and 2 different burgers ( Mission Impossible and MOAB) and one cocktail ( Midnight Rouge) … everything was delicious. We were disappointed that we did not leave room for dessert as the Fat Bastard looked amazing. Seating is crowded and customers are encouraged to walk around to explore so be comfortable that this is just part of the dining experience. We enjoyed the theme and the food very much and will be back next year when Adepticon happens.
They were very packed so I would say reservations are a must unless you are okay sitting at the bar. The bartender was great so doing that is a good option if you go without a reservation.

Nobody tells you ahead of time that getting into this restaurant involves performing in front of a crowd of strangers, and that is maybe the best thing about it. We found the door down the alley on Front Street, the one with no sign, rang the buzzer, and when we couldn't produce the password we were informed that a public activity was required for entry. My coworker, who is usually a reserved and dignified person, did something in front of about thirty people on the other side of a camera that I will not describe here but that I will bring up at every opportunity for the foreseeable future. This is how dinner at the SafeHouse starts.
Once you're inside the place keeps expanding on you. Cold War artifacts and spy memorabilia cover every surface in every room, there's a working magician at the bar, and a scavenger hunt sheet appears at your table if you want to commit to the bit. We committed. The Wisconsin white cheddar cheese curds came out first and were genuinely great, hand-breaded and audibly crispy in a way that cheese curds in Milwaukee tend to be when done right. The Spy Burger came out exactly as ordered and had enough going on that it needed a knife and fork at some point, which I respected. The Licensed to Kill mac and cheese was the sleeper hit of the table, smoked chicken and chipotle and a garlic bread crumb situation on top, the kind of dish you keep telling yourself you're done with and then reach for again. The pretzel bites were soft and warm and arrived with a honey mustard that got finished completely.
The cocktails have spy names and are actually strong, which is nice because themed cocktails at other places sometimes sacrifice the drink for the bit. The whole evening had this sustained energy where the gimmick kept earning its keep instead of fading after the first twenty minutes. We all agreed before dessert that it was the best dinner we'd had in Milwaukee, and also probably the most fun we'd had at any restaurant in a while. The SafeHouse has been doing this since 1966 and it still feels like it's in on the joke.
