Got a cake for my granddaughters b-day and it wasn’t even finished all the way. 1)The border of the cake was only on the front not all the way around like it should be. 2) she was over charged told her it’s was gonna be $35 she had to pay $50. 3) bakery employee said they now charge for the lettering on the cake as well as the design that’s why they charged her more. This was at the Silverdale store, and we will not be buying our cakes there anymore, that’s just totally unacceptable to send a cake out unfinished. Giving 1 star rating is even to much of I could do no stars I would.

This store seriously needs a deep cleaning. It's disgusting and unsanitary. In the supermarket world Safeway was a "premium" brand with excellent stores. We pay a premium to shop at Safeway. Those of us who've always shopped at Safeway did so because the experience was better than other supermarkets. Unfortunately, since the Albertsons merger Safeway has declined severely. Despite the declining experience and unsanitary state of most stores, prices remain at a premium. Placing their oldest, slowest grumpy cashier, with physical injuries and/or disabilities, at the only open register, in the middle of the day, artificially boosts self checkout traffic. This was a deliberate move to force more consumers to use self checkout. Artificially inflated self checkout traffic allows management to justify cutting hours for the increasingly disenfranchised staff. Reduced staffing is affecting the state of the entire store and consumers. The restrooms are worse than public restrooms off a freeway. The stench in the mens room is overwhelming. The changing table was absolutely disgusting and unsanitary. The entire restroom is unsanitary. Employees use those filthy restrooms, then go back to handling our food. Over the last year, I've increasingly had to return spoiled and expired food and other items because sales/promotional tags were not removed at many locations. These issues are a direct result of understaffed stores and the quality of the staff. A few months ago I pulled several containers of molding basil and handed them to the produce employee stocking fruit. After experiencing an employee immediately putting goods back at another store I went back to see if she did the same. Sure enough the moldy basil was restocked. Self checkout is for a handful of items, NOT a full cart. Closing all registers as early as 6pm is completely unacceptable. Why are we still paying a premium if there is no services or assistance? What's next? Will we be expected to shop out of boxes because those tasked with stocking were eliminated because they were reducing the year on year record profits? Safeway is losing market share to discount grocery stores for a reason. Cutting staffing, hiring those with zero people skills or work ethic because they're cheap, neglecting stores, using what little staff is in the store to fill online orders, and demanding consumers still pay a premium for services that no longer exists, is driving consumers away. Nearly everyone I know has switched to "discount" supermarkets. They all say the same thing; we pay less for the same food and the same, if not a better experience. Shareholders can't expect record profits to continue with stores in serious decline, resulting in consumers abandoning the brand. Shopping habits have changed substantially over the last decade. To survive, ideally thrive, retailers must adapt to change, without alienating their core customer base. Safeway is failing on all fronts. It's time to replace the executives, reinvest in the stores, and hire qualified staff.
