  Are you up for a fun laid back night of karaoke and dumplings? Get to Pel Meni Dumpling Tzar NOW! I accidentally stumbled upon this neighborhood gem after attending the Lee Scratch Perry tribute show at the Nectar Lounge. The dumpling community is supportive, caring, respectful, creative, engaging and entertaining! The service is top notch and the crowd of regulars made my night! Thank you DJ Marky D for an adventurous Hole/Courtney Love inspired karaoke night! Granny approved.

  There are dumplings, and then there are dumplings that feel like they’ve crossed continents to meet you on a rainy Seattle sidewalk. Under that soft pink canopy — the one crowned with the sleepy dumpling mascot — steam rose from stacked metal tiers like a quiet industrial ballet. Woks hissed. Lids clinked. Propane flames held their steady vigil against the February damp. The whole booth felt less like a pop-up and more like a traveling outpost of something older. I ordered the #1 Meal Deal — orange chicken, potstickers, and fried rice — because if you’re going to test a dumpling vendor, you test the flagship. The orange chicken arrived lacquered and glistening, crisp edges holding their structure beneath a glossy, citrus-sweet glaze that leaned bold without tipping sugary. The fried rice was proper market comfort food: peas, carrot, egg, each grain separate, lightly toasted, the kind of rice that knows it has done this before. The potstickers were golden on the belly, tender on the pleat, that ideal contrast between pan-seared bottom and steamed crown. In a separate cup, dumplings bathed in chili oil and sesame waited like a quieter cousin — supple skins, balanced filling, a measured heat that built slowly rather than shouted. And then, the side buns — pale, cloudlike, split to reveal a dark, savory center — soft as breath, carrying that gentle sweetness that only proper steamed dough achieves. The signage promised Boiled. Steamed. Baked. Handmade & Delicious. It delivered on all counts. There’s something deeply satisfying about food prepared in the open like this — trays, steam towers, woks, coolers, the choreography visible. No mystique, just competence. Rain on the pavement, red-and-white checkered tablecloth, a line forming despite the weather. That’s a good sign. Pel Meni at Capitol Hill Farmers Market doesn’t feel trendy. It feels established — like it has weathered seasons, markets, recessions, and still shows up with steam and heat. Glowing endorsement. Would gladly stand in the drizzle again.
