Why Has Goldfinch Tavern Lost Their Local Seattle Diners Simple; they are treated like second class citizens. I watched this hotel being built from the ground up. I live across the street at 98 Union and remember when the location was a decrepit 1940’s parking garage. It was a big deal when “Art” opened with the hotel, and it was full of locals. Better still when Ethan Stowell took on the location as the current Goldfinch Tavern. As a former Vice Chair of the Seattle Symphony Board of Directors and local Cruise Line President, I remember running into Symphony and business colleagues and patrons every time I walked in the door. Neighbors and ex-Seattle mayors dining here. It was a packed hub of high local energy. See and be seen. What Changed: Now, I never see any of those colleagues. Never see and of my neighbors. There are few locals. As Seattle went through its share of Covid difficulties, Goldfinch retreated. They stopped caring about their locals and neighbors. They retreated behind the easy fence of meeting minimum FS guest standards, while turning their back on being a welcoming high energy hub of the local community. Which is why the first question they will ask you is “are you staying at the hotel?” If you say “no” then you are instantly demoted to “second class diner.” You’ll be asked for your credit card before you can even order food. Doesn’t matter that you have dined there dozens and dozens of times. Spent months worth of rent there. The only other restaurant where this has ever happened to me is the Yard House at Times Square in Manhattan; I can forgive it there. It’s really a shame. There was a time when this restaurant welcomed everyone. Long gone. Most nights you can shoot a canyon through it. Gone is the local energy that not only made it a great place to dine for hotel guests, but that used to fill its tables night after night. It is also a real departure from the ambiance Ethan had built in his other downtown local eateries. This experience diminishes his local reputation. And makes me wonder why he continues to tie his wagon to this impersonal unwelcoming venue.

Had really high hopes for this place, but unfortunately was very disappointed. Menu online does not reflect what they actually have at the restaurant. A lot of the things we wanted to try, they no longer served. There was a long wait time between the courses, and when we got the main course, it was cold. Staff were friendly and the view was nice. Won’t be coming back and recommend trying another place. Not worth the money

I went with a group of 5 for a friend's birthday celebration on Saturday (10/25). The service was spectacular, the atmosphere was classy but the food was mediocre. The maple brussel sprouts were the best part of the dinner. All of our steaks came out cold like they had been sitting for a while. I understand steaks should rest, but they weren't even luke warm. Chowder was solid and enjoyable. The drinks were good but nothing special. Our entire table was $760 and for the price, I feel the food should have been better. A bit disappointing. EDIT-- I forgot to add that we were there for 2 hours. Most of that time was spent waiting on our entrees. Drinks were very quick to come out.
