Jen helped us have the most amazing date night. Cocktails were sophisticated and enjoyable without pretentiousness. The food dis not disappoint... Pork shoulder was super tender on a bed of polenta and jus (right word for gravy?)... oysters... Beet salad... Sooo good!

Staff are 5/5, no question. BUT THE FOOD! Got the salmon dip to start. Good flavor, but super greasy. No way could one eat much of that. Got the burger with fries, and miso cod. The burger was a burger, nothing to write home about. The fries were crispy on the outside, but inside they were like a pasty, gummy soft. Does that mean frozen or undercooked? I don't know. The cod... good flavor, but one texture through the entire dish. Soggy skin (ew), and the lentils and spinach were nearly puree texture. Every bite was pure mush. Could have put it in a blender and served side-by-side in a blind taste test with what we were served and one would have a difficult time differentiating. With all that being said, when you consider the price, it's just so sad. And then there's the absolute confusion the playlist creates. We heard EDM, pop, and some alternative punk folk (?for lack of a better description). And it was so very loud (and not because the place was filled with patrons), a conversation was not easily had. It was so bizarre. But, like I said before, the staff, every last one of them, were top notch and attentive, even to those tables not assigned to them. So I'll let you decide if you want to choose between going out for excellent service or finding a place that serves, at the very least, good food.

The food was incredibly expensive and not worth the money. The burrata appetizer was underwhelming (the arugula salad was way too salty) and the mains were worse than the appetizer. The vibes are impeccable, but not worth the huge price point. If you want a fancy restaurant, choose something else with better tasting food!

Got it! Here’s the corrected and polished version with Caesar salad: > We were warmly greeted as soon as we arrived and chose to sit in the bar. From the outside it looked comfortably inviting—and it truly was. Our server greeted us promptly and took our drink order right away. I ordered the Afternoon Tea cocktail, made with Earl Grey tea, lemon gin, and frothed egg white. It was delightful, tasty, and the perfect nightcap. For dinner, we started with the Caesar salad topped with Wagyu beef, which was cooked perfectly to medium rare. It was incredibly tender and so flavorful it practically melted in my mouth. The Caesar was perfectly seasoned; however, the dressing does contain anchovies, giving it a noticeable seafood/fish flavor. If that’s not your preference, this may not be the salad for you—but we found it excellent. The mushroom dish was cooked perfectly and quite tasty, though it lacked a bit of seasoning—I added some salt—but overall it was very good. While the meal was on the pricey side, that’s to be expected in downtown Seattle. I can’t wait to return to try more of their dishes and cocktails.

We had a fun New Year's Eve at Alder & Ash. The food was outstanding, especially the pork shoulder entree. We dined at the bar and the atmosphere and service were excellent. It was a nice change of pace from the Prix Fixe fare that is typical on NYE.
