  I had an insulting and honestly downright disrespectful experience at Safeway that needs to be addressed. I used the self-checkout like I always do. I scanned and bagged every item myself—doing the work of a cashier, which is already something customers have been pushed into. But then, after completing my transaction, I was shown surveillance footage of myself at the checkout and asked to confirm whether I scanned everything. In other words, I was treated like a potential thief immediately after doing exactly what I was supposed to do. So let me get this straight: I’m expected to do the store’s job by checking myself out, and then I’m also treated as a suspect who needs to verify I didn’t steal anything. That’s not just inconvenient—it’s insulting. To make things worse, I called corporate to explain what happened and express how uncomfortable and disrespected I felt. I was hung up on three separate times. No explanation, no attempt to resolve the issue—just complete dismissal. (To be fair, Jason, the store manager, was very kind and understanding over the telephone. Let's make that very clear, it was corporate who was completely out of line.) This kind of treatment is unacceptable. If customers are expected to take on the role of cashier, they should at the very least be treated with basic respect—not suspicion. And corporate support should exist to listen, not shut people down. Safeway needs to seriously rethink both its self-checkout practices and how it handles customer concerns.

  Every time I come in to look for food at the deli it looks like they place the orange/general chicken/rice in the case then just let it sit and burn, it’s never turned or mixed, just dried out at gross. Then if it’s close to dinner time forget about it, case is dang near empty, I feel like ya’ll should know when dinner rushes are and have food accordingly. The deli used to be great and now everyone I see it there’s nothing left, nones coming back out or it’s unbeatable.

  It was my first time visiting Anacortes, and I will say that it is a beautiful town with a very pleasant Safeway! The store was very clean, and many of the shelves appeared well stocked and faced. Each department looked very well maintained and the majority of employees were very helpful and kind. Becky working self checkout today heard the notification from the computer and immediately stayed close to help. (My hot meal wouldn’t scan) 5/5 stars all around! -shoutout to the manager/store director for running a nice ship from what I can see.

  I went to the deli today to grab some lunch, and the employee (guy with red hair) was visibly annoyed at me ordering my chicken tenders and mac n cheese. He had the worst attitude when I said anything at all, and was overall just rude. Also, I was not given a fork, so I had to ask. The lady (dark hair, older) who I asked for a fork, looked at me for a few seconds with the most nasty, rude, disgusted look ever and didn't even say anything at all. She then proceeded to passive aggressively hand me 2 forks. I said thank you and she completely ignored me. All of the food that me and the person whom I was with ordered was definitely not cooked right. It made my stomach hurt immediately. Worst experience I've ever had at a Safeway.
