  I would give this store 0 stars, but it will not let me. Went to Martins Gateway Drive today for a few things (9). Used the handheld scanner to shop. Scanned my checkout bar code and I got a message that assistance is needed with this transaction. This usually means that the Martin's Associate needs to scan my items to check and make sure I scanned everything. The Associate did not know how to do this and she called for help. Help never came and my transaction was voided. I scanned the bar code again and the same thing happened. When the transaction cancelled again, I scanned everything in manually and then scanned by Martin's bonus card. The screen froze and the Martin's associate did not know what to do and called for help. Someone came to help this time. She transferred my transaction to the self checkout desk. I gave her my bonus card and once again it would not accept my card. I told her to forget it and just paid full price for everything. Finally after an hour I finally got out of the store. Every single self checkout register needed Associate Assistance today. I have frequently shopped here and never had these kind of issues, but it seems to be getting worse. One of these associates told me to shop online, but Martin's prices for products are higher when you shop online. I only use this when I cannot get to the store. They gave me a code to do a survey, but that did not work either. It would not let me put in the last 2 digits of the survey PIN so it said my PIN was invalid. What a joke this place is. I am not shopping here anymore. It is always something. The carts for handicapped shoppers are never charged; the handheld scan unit does not work; the self checkout machines are horrible; and they are often out of a lot of products in the store. No more for me and hope other shoppers do the same. THE WORST MARTIN'S IN THE AREA.

  I absolutely love Martin’s on Gateway Drive in Winchester, VA. I have shopped at this location for years, both for myself and for my clients. However, I’ve encountered a recurring issue that needs to be addressed. On three separate occasions, I’ve purchased chicken breast that did not match the weight listed on the package label. As a professional who portions meat precisely for clients, I weigh everything I purchase. Each time, I found the actual weight to be less than what was advertised. The first two times, management handled the situation appropriately and resolved it. Unfortunately, during my most recent visit, the response was disappointing. Younger employees appeared dismissive, and I was told nothing could be done. A meat department employee explained they do not package the meat and have no control over the weighing process. If that is the case, then this may be a corporate-level issue — but regardless, customers should not be paying for product they are not receiving. When the labeled weight does not match the actual weight, it undermines trust. I should not have to purchase additional product to make up for shortages that should not exist in the first place. I have photo documentation of the discrepancies. To be clear, I have no issue with the store location itself, and I have generally had positive experiences there. However, accurate labeling and fair product weight are non-negotiable. I hope this issue is reviewed and corrected so customers can shop with confidence.

  Celeriac!!! This is the place I go to get celeriac for Romanian cooking. They have a wide variety of foods and so on, ESPECIALLY the produce. It's nice to see a standard American grocery store offering some interesting produce options so I don't have to go to another store for just the few less common things I need. I've started getting all my groceries here. If you are interested in tropical, seasonal, and ethnic-cuisine produce, you should know that they also sell starfruit, pepino melons, persimmons, passionfruit, regular papayas, Hawaiian papayas, plantains, chayote, bok choy, Costa Rican yam (ñame), batatas, taro, and malanga. The only downside to this place is that their sweet potatoes are a bit overpriced. Go to the Walmart or another store if you want sweet potatoes at their cheapest, but honestly, I usually just buy them while I'm at Martin's anyway. They are high quality.

  When in Winchester, go to Martins. They have plenty of variety in stock.
