Best service we've had really about anywhere! Paul took care of us. Such a nice and polite young man that went out of his way for my wife and I to enjoy a meal before we headed back home 3hrs away. The chicken parm was the best anywhere and the salad bar was fresh as well. Wish this place was closer to home!!!!!!
Took a spring break trip with my two children in 91 year-old grandfather to the western part of the state of Virginia. Places I had visited as a child full of nostalgia and beauty. We stopped at Hugh’s Restaurant to treat my kids to a dessert dinner with cake and milkshakes. The restaurant was so fun and the service was fantastic. The owner took time I’d only need to speak with us, but treated us as if we were the only guests in the restaurant. Truly loved this location. Highly recommended and definitely will be going back.

Honestly, I was surprised at how good this place is! Not that I thought it would be bad.. but it far exceeded my expectations! The food was delicious, the service was fantastic, and the overall experience was outstanding. If you're anywhere close.. do yourself a favor and stop by! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

On a day road trip up to visit Monterey in the mountains of Virginia, a friend and I spotted High’s Restaurant with the promise of trout on the menu! What a treat to offer. We stopped immediately & were greeted outside with a welcome from a smiling man who turned out to be our waiter (waves Paul!) We stepped inside and it was as if we took a Time Machine back to a bygone era circa sometime in the 1950s. The decor’s retro look matched a yummy down-home comfort food menu. The “I Love Lucy Show” was playing on the TV and I was excited to see milkshakes on the offer. But, instead tried the home brewed sweet ice tea to start. It was delicious & I had two rounds while pondering and thinking about what type of trout to order. Waiter Paul helped me pick the blackened style - although the battered and fried or garlic sauce also was sounding so good! I was not disappointed by the trout at all. Fresh, not dry and overcooked and even the skin was so yummy. Sides included my decision to try the green beans and Cobra fries. Both sides were enjoyable. The fries were not greasy and seasoned well and had a fun curly shape. But the trout was the star! Waiter Paul helpfully explained the trout came from a local farm six miles away. If you ever venture to Monterey - visit High’s Restaurant!
High's restaurant is a little treasure tucked away on Main Street in Monterey, Virginia. More than a mom and pop's ; the atmosphere is energetic and friendly. The lighting was the perfect mix of bright and luminescent. The menu was printed clearly and easy to read with a large variety of things to choose from , including ice cream options and a supreme banana split. The food was so scrumptious that your mouth watered for more even after you left the establishment. I highly recommend this little piece of the sweet town of Monterey, Virginia.
