It is a place of convenient location wise. I wish they managed the staff a little better as far as checking dates on products and perishable items

I’d never review a place as mundane as a grocery store, unless it did me wrong. I picked up a 6 pack here a week ago. It was THREE months expired and I didn’t realize it until it was already partially gone and I started feeling sick. Not to mention this has to be the most expensive grocery store in the area - I’d be fine with that if I didn’t have to play expiration roulette!

First of all this store constantly charges you more than the shelf price and if are lucky you will notice and go back to the customer service and get your money back. Employees are usually helpful, but a young gentleman who presented himself as the manager not only refused to go check the price because, once again, it differed from the shell price, but he was rude and said the price is whatever is shown on screen (which often isn’t true at this store) and then left to talk to other customers, then pushed my groceries aside when I went check the price by myself (I was away for less than a minute). He also told me he was too busy and said I had to go and stand in line again. Finally another employee, a very nice lady, took me to the register and checked me out. I’ve been coming to this store for about 15 years and never experienced such rude attitude

I was assaulted by a male Safeway employee (photo) in the pet food aisle of the Herndon store in October 2025. Captured on store video is the employee’s physical assault whereby he walked up to me and banged into my left side, forced his face to within a few inches of my face, and then faked a punch toward my head. I had never met or spoken to this employee before. Only a few minutes before, I shopped at the seafood counter and briefly spoke with another employee about beard masks, which are required by federal regulation for employees who wear beards during food handling. I had no interaction whatsoever with the individual who attacked me, but apparently this bearded employee works at the seafood counter. Note the pet food aisle is on the other side of the store from the seafood counter. The store manager, Mr. Mario Melendez, was immediately notified, and I filed a police report with the Herndon Police Department. Officer Scott Stein completed a grossly inaccurate and incomplete assault report that did not fully reflect the incident. The assaulting employee provided false information to police. Lieutenant J.P. Dyer later allowed me to add supplemental evidence to the case file, including my attached short video documenting the last part of the employee assault when I was able to record on my phone. In the video, you can clearly see the employee in front of me and using his raised arm to slap down on my phone multiple times. The audio captures the loud sound of his phone striking mine. As a result of this incident, I no longer travel through incorporated Herndon or enter Safeway stores. I cannot trust that I won’t be assaulted again by an employee I’ve never met while minding my own business grocery shopping. This experience has caused lasting harm and a complete loss of trust. Consumers deserve to know that this happened inside a Safeway store, and that I was left to protect myself by documenting the incident and pursuing accountability through official channels.
