I have a severe shellfish allergy, and I was led to believe my order would be safe. However, I have since learned that this restaurant regularly uses the same fryers and oil to cook both shellfish items and non-shellfish items like the Bloomin' Onion. It is absolutely unacceptable and frankly shocking that a major chain would have such a dangerous practice. The fact that a shared oil could have been the cause of my death—just from ordering a standard appetizer—is appalling. To anyone with a shellfish allergy: BEWARE. Ordering anything fried here, even seemingly safe items, poses a significant, potentially fatal risk. Outback Steakhouse needs to immediately revise its kitchen protocols to ensure separate, dedicated fryers are used for allergens like shellfish. Until this fundamental change is made, I strongly advise those with food allergies to avoid this restaurant.
