I’ve never experienced the type of disrespect and discrimination ever at any other Safeway that I’ve been too ! I was with a friend who was doing a shopping order and the manager and the man working at the self checkout made assumptions that we were purchasing alcohol when my friend was trying to purchase medication that was apart of the order . He called his manager because he assumed that the phone that was being used to purchase the order was mines and that I needed to show mines. Neither of us had the phone in our hands, it was just siting on the checkout counter . He asked me for my ID when I told him that my friend had his ID . Both of us are well over 18 to clarify. He was very persistent on me showing my ID while my friend had his ID out and present . I asked the worker, how can you assume that the cell phone was mines and he couldn’t give me any response .The worker still was pressuring me to show mines , simply just ignoring and being aggressive with my friend. The manager made claims of feeling disrespected because I was asking questions which confused me due to me clarifying why are there being assumptions made when we were clearly telling both of the workers that was not my phone and if I am not the owner of the phone nor the account why am I the only one being asked? I felt disrespected and discriminated due to the way this was handled and I will be going to higher authorities on this issue. As a shopper or anyone showing up to any establishment I should be treated with respect and common courtesy since OUR money is the one funding this establishment and funding their jobs .
