I come here about 3 times a week. I've never been acknowledged or recognized, as far as I know. I always order ahead on the app. I thank the sandwich artists on my way out if they're present, but seldom get an acknowledgement, just confused stares, like why would you interrupt my phone browsing? Any interaction with staff reveals how miserable they are, so I try to minimize it. Today was a good example: I always order footlongs, use the coupon, and leave a tip. I came in and picked up my order on the rack, and realized they made a 6 inch. The bag was light. Inconsequential. No heft. It was a 6 inch. It felt like a 4 inch. I waited until the sandwich artist was free and said, with an apologetic, understanding tone, 'I'm sorry, this was supposed to be a footlong.' She replied that she 'thought it was a six inch'. I lifted the receipt, which clearly stated that it was supposed to be a footlong. I said that I was 'pretty sure it was a footlong' with an apologetic smile. She looked at the receipt and sighed. She replied that she "thought it said six," there was "no need to be rude" as she began rushing through a six inch to complete the order. My mouth opened a little. I was surprised that our interaction escalated so quickly! I explained I wasn't trying to be rude and apologized. Not because I felt responsible for the issue, but because I felt bad for her situation. I almost asked her to stop and that I'd just take the 6 inch. It wasn't worth her disdain. I felt bad for her. She quickly made another 6-inch, rushing back and forth between the bag and the boards, reading my ingredient choices with disdain, and explained she was working by herself (not an apology, but an excuse.) I apologized again as she handed me the rest of my sandwich. I felt so bad for her! She rolled her eyes and rushed off to the next customer. I seldom see a line there, it felt like a rush, but it wasn't. She didn't apologize or otherwise acknowledge the issue. No meal upgrade, no free footlong, nothing like making things right. I didn't expect it. Zero responsibility, no acknowledgement. I was embarrassed and confused about the interaction, and while this store is fairly close by, I'll be driving an extra 15 minutes to the Subway by Food Lion from now on if I want Subway. I don't feel like Subway much right now. It's just not worth it to deal with the misery, assumptions, and attitude of the staff at franchises like Apple Market Subway.
