As the hometown of George Washington, Alexandria and its surrounding areas is no stranger to history. Washington, D.C., beautiful Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery and the National Masonic Temple are all just minutes away. But despite these famous landmarks and all of the legends that have traveled the waters of the Potomac River, Chart House Alexandria is still the sight to see.
Hands down, Chart House is the best river view restaurant in the city. Whether dining outside on the patio or indoors, our seafood restaurant gives gorgeous panoramic views of the waterfront and the sparkling city. Before or after their visit, guests have easy access to famous Old Town sites such as Robert E. Lee's boyhood home, George Washington's Townhouse and Market Square, one of the oldest market places in the whole country.
But that doesn't keep diners from spending their time at Chart House. Our Sunday brunch ranks among some of the best in Alexandria

Real nice place.
I went for dinner with my family and left real satisfied. The calamari entree was so tasteful. And my NY was real good with a decent size.
Our waiter was a nice guy and very professional.
The only thing that wasn’t “right” was that i think they misunderstood how we all wanted our meat done.

New Year’s Eve! We had our reservations done. We had to wait a little at the bar before being seated, and finished our drinks at the table.
Service was okay. Salads (kale and butternut squash, Caesar salads) were below average, main course was good, dessert was extremely disappointing. At that point we informed the waiter, who apologized, and we asked him to inform the manager that the desserts, NY style cheese cake(tasted straight from the shelves of a cheap supermarket) and the lava cake, what was just DRY CAKE, “no lava at all”were extremely disappointing! The manager came to our table heard us and apologized as well, we mentioned that those deserts were bad, not worth being on the menu for a special occasion, and even worse being offered as the third course of a $81,00/person meal, it was shameful! At that point a compensation should have been offered as good practice of great restaurants, well… that was not the case, unfortunately!

Went the 31 New Year Eve at 1045 pm was not impressed with the host. They were behind so bad with the reservation were backed up. We waited for 35 minutes to be seated. The bar was full and crowded couldn’t get a drink at all. So unorganized knowing that it was going to be a full night. Food was great and so was our waiter. Need to work on the front of the house. If you make a reservation it should be ready at that time. Sad it’s a great place but that was Unacceptable service.

Absolutely horrible experience both times we went! The service was terrible and the old man who’s either the manager or owner is so incredibly condescending.
My mother in law ordered steak and it was as raw as raw could be! She asked for medium well! Second time they brought it back to the table he told her that’s what she wanted and that’s what she was basically getting it was burnt!!!!
We went on New Year’s Day maybe 16 people in the whole restaurant we had reservations! Took 1hr to even get our food and it wasn’t even right! I would never in my life recommend this place to anyone again!

TL;DR: Great location, good service, mediocre food. I would skip it, unless you really like overcooked steaks and flavorless seafood.
I used to go to the Chart House a lot pre-Covid. It was one of my favorite places to eat, especially due to the salad bar. Went back here for Christmas, it was mediocre at best. Some of us got steak, that was ordered medium rare but came out well done. The steak was sent back, but on the second try it came back as a medium well. The shrimp were flavorless. The salmon was standard. Desserts were frankly, sub-par. All that being said, it’s a great location with excellent views of the Potomac. Service was good as well. For $81, I absolutely would not come back.
