Handosake is so underrated in SLC. It’s awesome for fresh and flavorful sushi. The handroll concept is fun for SLC and the atmosphere is great. We received great service from Thomas. Visit this restaurant. It’s especially great before seeing a play at Eccles. They take reservations too!

My husband and I are new to the SLC area and chose this place for a date night. The atmosphere was amazing and so was our waiter Corey who realized we were not sure about the menu and explained everything perfectly, providing us an amazing experience. The food was perfect, including some experimental dishes that blew us away with how great they are. If you are in the downtown SLC area and are wanting a sushi experience then this is a must visit place!!!

First time at HandoSake for my husbands birthday. It was noted on our reservation but not acknowledged by staff until I brought it up towards the end. I made a reservation for what I thought was a table for two, but was directed to the bar area as that is their standard seating. When I mentioned a table, we were taken to a two top. Server was nice, but tending to everyone so service was quite slow so we sat for a while before getting our full order in. My maki roll (entree) came first before any apps so that was disappointing. Our miso soup was lukewarm and the veggie gyoza (not good and expensive) was cold. The gyoza felt like it was a frozen item. They offered to swap both the soup and gyoza but we requested just a remake of the gyoza which wasn’t any better. My husband enjoy his nigiri and ordered the 5 sampler hand roll (chefs choice). The hand rolls were dropped off by the hostess multiple times without any explanation of what they were. When asked, she didn’t know much. Dessert sampler was nice and they gave us a free matcha creme brûlée was probably my favorite item. Pretty disappointed with our first visit.

If you’re in Salt Lake City and haven’t tried this hand roll sushi spot yet, you’re missing out on something special! From the moment you walk in, the ambiance sets the tone. Warm, modern, and effortlessly cool, the kind of place that feels both elevated and welcoming.
Absolutely exceptional. Every hand roll is crafted to perfection. Very fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. You can taste the quality in every bite.
What really ties it all together is the personality of the place. The energy, the music, and especially the service. Valentina was phenomenal: friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the menu. They made thoughtful recommendations that completely elevated our experience.

This may be the worst dining experience I’ve had in a decade or so. I ordered 4 items, a California roll, a chirashi bowl, grated wasabi and a beer. The California roll arrived almost immediately. It was good, not great, but good. After a long wait my beer arrived. After even longer my chirashi bowl arrived. I had to ask for my wasabi. I was given a bowl with a little wasabi on it, but I don’t believe it was grated. In the meantime, two people sat down at the bar, one seat down from me and started taking photographs of food. I assume they were commercial doing photographs for the restaurant. They had bright lights which they swung around to get different angles on the food, but mostly in my face. I find it astounding at the restaurant management wouldn’t at least isolate them away from customers. I spoke to them, but they had no interest in moving elsewhere or the fact that they were disturbing a paying customer. Suffice it to say I won’t be back nor would I recommend anybody else going because clearly management really doesn’t care about customers.
