About

Steak HouseSeafood RestaurantAmerican Restaurant
The year was 1943, and Jim and Alice Wimmer decided to take a big risk, buying a small existing roadside restaurant known for its char-broiled steaks. How fitting that in 2018, the restaurant’s 75th anniversary year, the third generation of Wimmers, Amy Wimmer, takes the helm from her father Jeff and his wife Jane, bringing her own adventurous spirit to the Del-Bar, the same kind of spirit she so admired in her grandparents. Rich History • 75 Years & 3 Generations • Award Winning Cuisine While flattering comparisons to steakhouses in Chicago and New York are regularly made by visitors, Amy Wimmer still cherishes this restaurant, her family restaurant, as one-of-a-kind.

What a great experience! The restaurant itself has a very neat, classy, retro vibe. Waitstaff were incredibly polite and responsive. The food was incredible!!! I don’t know what they do to get their filets so succulent, but wow. Would highly recommend!

Bottom Line: They executed almost everything well except for a $70 10oz filet. There was an opportunity for Martina, the manager, to remedy the situation of 2 failed attempts to cook a 10oz filet to medium, and the solution was disrespectful. The scallops my mother ordered were great- The crab cakes were great- the sauces to accompany all the items were great. Hence the 3 stars. The details: I think the 10oz filet(largest size filet they have) is the thickest and therefore hardest to cook up to temperature in the middle. I order all my steaks medium, and to have such a raw red center void of visible striations is the hallmark of not having a dedicated method in the kitchen to cook thick steaks. They should look into a sous vide or bake with a broiler/pan sear finish to avoid this. It seems like there are some other reviews of undercooked steaks and I don’t think they are addressing it because all of the other thinner cuts are cooked to the customers liking. What happened to me: It was undercooked. I asked for something to be done, so they tried to cook it again. It came back to me MORE black on the outside and still undercooked on the inside. So I told the manager Martina that I wasn’t interested in paying for the steak. HERE’S the RUB: She said “of course, thank you for letting me know” - So the solution she offered was to give me a bill with 50% reduction. So that would leave my $73 line item for a steak, baked potato, and salad at $36.50. Except, they ruined the steak, and now they want me to pay $36.50 for a salad and baked potato. Dealing with your mistakes in earnest is the best way to earn repeat customers.

Loved everything about this place. We took my mother there for her birthday, and everybody had a blast. Nothing I tried (Steak, Appz, Wine, Cocktails, Dessert) wasn't excellent. Staff was so friendly. Some lively music and chatting, but not so loud we couldn't converse in comfort. Great menu (both food and Wine). Such a good time. Had a lively chat with the Sommelier after ordering an excellent bottle of Chiara Boschis Barolo wine. Turned out she'd been in the area the past week. Would love to have met her :-). We will return. Might do my birthday there, next year.

Came with some friends on a Dells weekend trip. It was my suggestion to come here and im so glad we did. First off stephanie our waitress was amazing. Polite and just amazing at her job. Started off with drinks. I got a long Island and it was the best one I've ever had. The Rockefeller oysters were absolutely top tier. The main entrees we ordered were out of this world. Every time we come up here del bar is a necessary visit. Also the tirimisu was amazing. 10/10 food service drinks. The owners should be proud of thier employees for bringing such an amazing vibe and atmosphere to the restaurant. Thank you for having us

We visited The Del-Bar during our honeymoon and had a very enjoyable experience. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. My wife's salmon was cooked perfectly with a great cut of fish and wonderful flavor. I ordered the walleye, which was also very good and tasted fresh and well-prepared. My only criticism is that it appeared to be a trimmed portion, making it feel a bit pricey for the amount served. The standard mixed drinks were surprisingly expensive for fairly basic cocktails. However, we also ordered a Grasshopper, which was fantastic and definitely worth trying. A special touch that made our evening memorable was the complimentary dessert the staff brought us in celebration of our honeymoon. It was a mousse topped with whipped cream and served with chocolate crisps on the side. The dessert paired perfectly with the Grasshopper and was a thoughtful gesture that we truly appreciated. Overall, The Del-Bar offers excellent food, attentive service, and a classic Wisconsin Dells dining experience. While some menu items and drinks are on the expensive side, the quality of the meal and the extra hospitality made it a worthwhile visit.
