This was the slowest moving, most irritating, headache inducing fast food experience ever! There’s no line when I walk in just a single lady ordering 3 sandwiches in front of me, shouldn’t take too long right? WRONG! These employees were absolutely useless, I watched the lady in front of me get increasingly irritated as she ordered 2 identical 6 inch subs, should be fairly easy for one employee to make them side by side, instead one employee made them one by one while a second employee stood behind him talking about her personal life, distracting the employee making the sandwiches who would then stop what he was doing to turn and talk to his coworker face to face, and completely forget what task he was working on. I’m all for employees having a good time at work and getting along with their coworkers but if it’s making you incapable of your job then it’s an issue. Took this kid 20 minutes to make the lady’s 3 sandwiches that she complained about being wrong multiple times and left in a completely understandable huff! Then came my turn. This sandwich was made with not a single brain cell or care in the world. Off center in the paper, sauce all over the damn place, missing/wrong toppings when corrected multiple times, wrapped up and shoved in the bag like a toddler, and just an overall mess, I’m not even sure it’s edible at this point! Will not be going back!
Thank goodness this location cannot keep workers over a few weeks.
I was at Subway around 1pm-130pm today and the lady behind the counter was clearly stressed and trying to restock. She rudely told me to just wait, which is fine, I wasn't in a rush. I get to ordering the sandwiches after 5mins or so, (I ask by stating sandwich name, then bread type) and she sighs and impatiently asks "What bread type". Anyway, she asks if I wanted it heated or toasted (thought she misspoke so I said yeah, thinking it was the same thing, I've only ever been asked about toasted in the past), she loads both up on the tray and hurriedly shoves it in the toaster. We get to the veggies and I'll preface this by saying I know that Subway is no Michelan Star with Gordan Ramsy in the back but my goodness. Some were browned, frozen, dark/mushy, slimy and they didn't taste fresh in the slightest. She didn't bother to change out the knife for the different sandwiches (one veggie, one meat), warps them up terribly which caused veggies and sauce to drip onto the counter and into the bag, didn't even bother to tape them closed, and pushed the bag of food at me.
I've worked in fast food, a restaurant kitchen, and customer service for the past 4 years now. I can only recall one time where I was rude and impatient with customers. I understand being busy and having patrons stand off to the side to wait while restocking is being done, but the whole interaction was uncalled for. Monotone, no smile, quiet, and looking miserable is fine and normal, I'll still tip the same as usual, but the whole interaction was rude and obnoxious. I usually tip 20-25%, but I didn't feel bad leaving 0%. It's not like she's the only worker, there were others she could've swapped with if she needed a people break. Or she could've just asked me if it was possible to wait longer until she's done, clearly there was a bit to do, I wouldn't've cared.
No fault to her, more of the establishment itself, but the veggies didn't taste great and the bread was stale in some parts. I've never had such horrid customer service since applying for healthcare. Spooner location never has decent quality anything, the one in Rice Lake is actually delicious, same with the one in Superior. Not to mention the latter two always have decent staff, Spooner is a hit or miss.
