- MOMichele OstbyeJul 1, 20261.0Be very careful when purchasing meat from this specific Safeway. On 06/22/26, I purchased five packages of lamb shanks and immediately froze them upon arriving home. On 06/30/26, I defrosted one of the packages, and the smell was rancid. I tried another package and the same disgusting, rancid, slimey meat. I attempted to return them to the University Place Safeway the following day and was told they don't refund products once they've been frozen. Bottom line . . . University Place Safeway sold me $50+ in rotten lamb and refused to refund my money because I froze it before I realized I had purchased rotten meat from this Safeway. Perhaps The Washington State Department of Health needs to audit this particular facility for exposing the public to toxic food items!

And, bonus, everyone at Safeway is really kind, considerate and super helpful. The German bakery store in Lakewood ...if you've been there, and you've experienced it, you know that they are super rude, not helpful, and very dismissive. I suggest getting your Black Forest cake from Safeway on University Place Washington 🙂 if you want an overall good experience with the food and the service, go to Safeway, not the German bakery in Lakewood. They are so unbelievably rude there.

- BLBrenden LudwigMay 28, 20261.0This location has an insane amount of cardboard freestanding waist high displays around the checkout area and the end caps facing it. It feels like this is an OSHA violation for lack of access via wheelchair or motorized cart, and their motorized carts are huge. It seems like this would be an easy fix, there's about a dozen of these stupid cardboard displays that could be taken down, if brands want the space they should pay for an end cap or floor stack that's safe. I do not require them motorized cart or wheelchair, but I've almost been run over by them in this location because of this situation multiple times. It needs to be addressed, I do not see this as an issue at any other nearby grocery store I visit.
