- BABerneta AsatoSep 8, 20265.0I recently ventured into the Safeway at the top of Queen Anne Hill for the first time yesterday and apparently I have been shopping at the wrong Safeway this entire time! This is one of the largest and nicest Safeway stores I’ve visited in Seattle. It is clean, bright and airy, with an excellent selection of fresh meat and produce. Everything was well stocked, and I especially loved the newer self-checkout machines. Even grocery shopping feels slightly more exciting when the machines aren’t fighting with you. This will also be my new “sushi Safeway” now that the Lower Queen Anne location has stopped offering sushi. To their credit, the staff there were very honest and explained that it was due to the cost. The difference between the two Queen Anne locations is honestly dramatic. I live closer to the Lower Queen Anne one and I really hope Safeway invests in improving that store, particularly the cleanliness, pan handling, and ongoing safety concerns in the parking garage, where loitering and open drug use have become serious problems. For now, the Safeway at the top of the hill will officially be our main location. It may be a slightly longer drive, but for a clean, well-stocked store and sushi it is absolutely worth the extra gas!
