This store is consistently terrible. Do not go. They constantly block the fire exit ensure everybody who visits is unsafe. No hand baskets to shop and the managers yell at you if you point out how they are breaking fire safety laws. Don’t use carts to block the fire exits. It is plainly illegal in our City and State.

Very convenient grocery store in a great Capitol Hill location. Good selection of everyday essentials, fresh produce, and ready-to-go items, plus the long operating hours make it especially useful for quick stops any time of day. Easy and reliable option while in the neighborhood.

Went here for seafood and an adult beverage. Stood at the seafood counter for 8 or so minutes and noone came despite being paged and the call for assistance button was not functional. Went to the liquor counter and after standing in line the cashier asks “who all needs something from the liquor cabinet” the cashier comes back with the 2 other customers bottles and says “I can’t find it right now, I’ll look later” and proceeds to get on the register with the two other bottles as if I were supposed to be skipped after having already waited my turn in line… not, ‘is there anything else I can grab you?’ But “can’t find it, wait.” After having already waited… as if you’re not expected to give each customer your undivided attention. Unacceptable.

My husband and I visited this Safeway about 30 minutes before closing, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. I completely understand that employees are tired near closing time and probably deal with difficult situations throughout the day, especially at night. However, paying customers should still be treated with professionalism and respect. The first thing we noticed when arriving was the environment outside the store. There were multiple homeless individuals and people clearly struggling with substance abuse gathered near the entrance, which already made the atmosphere feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Once we entered the store, no one greeted us or acknowledged us at all. While we were shopping, someone apparently ran through the back of the store and triggered an alarm. Several employees suddenly rushed through the aisles chasing after the situation, nearly pushing past customers in the process. It created a very chaotic environment while we were simply trying to finish grabbing a few items. What frustrated us most was the constant pressure from staff while we were shopping. Even though we arrived a full 30 minutes before closing, employees repeatedly approached us telling us we needed to hurry up and go to the front or we would not be able to check out. This happened multiple times while there was still plenty of time left before closing. We were not lingering around or causing problems, just trying to make a quick purchase. To make matters worse, we wanted to buy ice cream, but an employee or manager informed us they had “lost the keys” to the freezer and could not unlock it. This was still around 15 minutes before closing, which honestly felt unprofessional and disorganized. When we finally checked out, we could hear another manager outside loudly yelling and cursing at someone near the entrance while telling them the store was closed. The entire atmosphere felt stressful, chaotic, and unnecessarily hostile. I will say the store itself has a great selection of products, and I understand this location probably deals with a lot of challenges late at night. But good customers should not feel rushed, harassed, or uncomfortable simply because they came in before closing time. Respectful customers deserve respectful treatment. My honest recommendation to others is: if you need to shop here, try coming during the daytime rather than late at night. And to the owner or upper management: this location could truly benefit from stronger leadership, better customer service standards, and a calmer late-night environment. If you’re hiring managers, I might honestly apply myself because this store has potential, but the customer experience needs serious improvement. 🌙🛒

I just want them to bring back the baskets. Now that they’re installed the security gate and have a Costco style security guard. I’m always gathering my items in my arms. I’d use a reusable bag but I’m pretty sure they’d accuse me of theft. At least the staff are friendly.
