Staying in Seattle for the month of July. My partner and I have walked passed this place several times always commenting on the amazing smell.
Decided to grab dinner there tonight and thrilled we did.
The food - 🤌 exquisite. Great flavors, good portions.
The ambience - loved the style, the decoration, and the chill low music
The service - it wasn't too crazy, but nonetheless the service was there when we needed. Friendly and quick. There was one tiny mistake made with the food and it was so quickly taken care of. They went above and beyond!
Highly recommend!

I’m Bengali, and I’ve dined here 4 times now and sampled most of the food. They do a good job with some dishes like luchi and cholar daal, but some of the dishes are not worth the price, like the biryani or the fish fry which has too much breading. Overall though, the food is good enough to make a visit.
I’ll not be returning here however simply because of the inconsistency of service. The first time I visited the service was quite good, but on the three visits since something has always been sub par. The last visit, they forgot my friend’s drink entirely, and then still charged it on the final cheque. They did the same with the dessert and then charged it twice. When my friend checked and asked the staff to correct it they took down her number and promised to call the next day to fix it. To nobody’s surprise, that call never came and that mistake was never rectified. It’s not about the money, my friend came from Vegas excited to try the Bengali place all over Instagram being pushed by so many influencers.
Kha-Bar transcends the typical Indian dining experience, offering beautifully elevated Bengali cuisine in a lush, sophisticated atmosphere. While the ambiance is striking, it is the warm, benchmark hospitality that truly sets them apart.Having visited multiple times since their opening earlier this year, several dishes have become personal favorites. The Avocado Salad is incredibly vibrant and fresh. The Samosas are beautifully flaky and robustly spiced. Being from New Orleans, I rarely find soft-shell crab in Seattle, but Kha-Bar’s version is outstanding—three generous, perfectly fried, crunchy pieces complemented by a house-made aioli. The Chhana Dalna is a masterfully prepared Bengali cottage cheese curry, and the mutton curry features an impeccable balance of spices. Kha-Bar offers an addictive, unique dining experience that Capitol Hill is lucky to have.

Kahbar captivates at first glance. The ambience is exquisitely curated, radiating warmth, elegance, and a vibrant conviviality that makes for an inviting dining experience. The atmosphere alone promises a memorable culinary journey.
Regrettably, the cuisine struggled to uphold that promise.
The lamb cutlets were overshadowed by an unmistakable gamey aroma that distracted from the overall experience. The beetroot cutlet was commendable, beautifully balanced and flavourful, while the fish fry was crisp, succulent, and thoroughly enjoyable. The wasabi prawns were, without exaggeration, the highlight of the meal—immaculately executed with impeccable balance. Curiously, however, almost every appetiser arrived adorned with an identical garnish and accompanying sauces, diminishing the individuality of each dish.
The beverages were equally underwhelming. The Jal Jeera Mojito felt like a diluted rendition of what should have been a vibrant refresher, while the Aam Pora Sherbet lacked the smoky depth and robust character that define this timeless classic.
The Cholar Dal was merely average. Traditionally embellished with golden fried coconut slivers and a delicate sweetness that lends it unmistakable authenticity, this rendition lacked both soul and provenance.
The Kosha Mangsho proved to be another disappointment. Conventionally, when paired with ethereal luchis, it is a gastronomic alliance worthy of reverence—a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, Kahbar failed to recreate that cherished Bengali classic.
The greatest letdown, however, was the Kolkata Biryani. In an authentic rendition, the potato is every bit as iconic as the meat itself. Here, the biryani was insufficiently heated, allowing the aroma of goat fat to dominate and leaving an unpleasant greasy coating on the palate. It was, regrettably, the weakest course of the evening.
After a succession of disappointments, we chose not to venture into the dessert menu.
Kahbar possesses an enchanting setting and an exceptional ambience, but true culinary excellence demands substance beyond aesthetics. One can only hope the kitchen evolves to match the splendour of its surroundings.

I live in Eastern Washington and was in Seattle for a short trip, so was really excited to try this Bengali restaurant out. First the positives - Food was great. The menu looks nice and curated, different from run-of-the-mill indian restaurants, or even restaurants that claim to be Bengali. We had a hard time picking out what to order because we really wanted to order everything. We ordered the aam porar shorbot, mutton curry, mutton biryani, daab chingri, rabri, and vegetable chop. Everything was delicious, and reminded me of the taste of things back home, so kudos to khabar for that. My heart had sank at the sight of the luchis - because they look more like kulcha, but i was happy to be proved wrong once i tasted them. Not a 100% luchi, but great tasting nonetheless. Everything else was really great. Biryani as close to Kolkata tasting as I have tasted in the US.
I also enjoyed the decor and ambience, particularly because they were playing nice Bengali music that I personally enjoy.
The service, however, left much to be desired. We were never given glasses for our water, we had to ask after like 40 minutes of being seated. Our main courses were served on time but the dessert took like 20-30 minutes, and nobody tried to clear our plates. As I mentioned, we had ordered a bunch of food, and it was difficult to eat in the small table for two - I ended up consolidating plates myself as we ate. We had requested if we could get green chillies, and were told yes. But by the time the chillies were served, we had already finished eating our curries. When someone finally came to clear our plates, they did not clean up a small spill of green chillies on the table. Which we would have overlooked if not for the server's next steps - when we asked for the dessert menu, he came and placed the menu right over the spill, and then smeared it some more when he came to take the menu away. It was really unappetizing.
The service team probably should also know a little bit about the cuisine they are serving. The table behind us asked the server what 'laccha porota' was, and the server said 'puri'. They didnt end up ordering the laccha porota because they didnt want puri, and I guess laccha porota is not puri.
I really want kha-bar to succeed, because i want good restaurants that serve Kolkata-style food. And the food here is really good - but the service was bad enough that I would hesitate before coming back.
