- GRGentle RainJun 1, 20261.0: ★☆☆☆☆ I walked into Five Guys in Ballard expecting what has been a fairly standard experience at Five Guys locations around the country for years: ordering fries and adding the complimentary toppings that the menu advertises as being available with the purchase of an item. As a vegetarian, fries with toppings are one of the few reasons I would choose to meet friends at Five Guys. The menu wording refers to toppings being included with the purchase of an item, not specifically a burger or sandwich. Unfortunately, my interaction with the manager, Anna, was one of the most unpleasant customer service experiences I have had in a very long time. Rather than discussing the issue professionally, I felt that I was being talked down to and treated as though I was ignorant for asking a reasonable question about the menu. The conversation escalated to the point where I was effectively told to leave the store, which I did. After leaving, I contacted Five Guys corporate customer service to clarify the policy. Based on that conversation, I was informed that my understanding of the menu wording was correct. What disappointed me most was not the disagreement itself. Policies can be misunderstood, and mistakes happen. What disappointed me was the way the situation was handled. A respectful conversation could have resolved everything in a matter of minutes. I left feeling unwelcome, embarrassed, and frustrated. Until this issue is addressed, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I hope ownership takes customer interactions seriously and recognizes that the way guests are treated has a lasting impact on the community’s perception of a business. I expected fries. Instead, I got an argument.
