Do not frequent this establishment if you are a 1 top. The man that greeted me got irritated when I came in, just myself, after I spent forever trying to find a good place to come to while in town.
It was halfway, if not more, empty at an off time, so I asked for a booth since there were so many open. The guy rolled his eyes (I am not exaggerating) and told me to go sit at a bar stool. I asked again if I could have a booth if possible (I've been in the industry previously for 15+ years, it's not a big deal when the restaurant is slow AF). He got SO annoyed that I asked. He said "if I give you a booth, that means everyone else that asks is going to have to get one too". I asked him what he meant because I didn't understand, and he said "no, you understand. I don't want to give you a booth because then everyone like you that comes in that wants a booth is going to have to get one too."
He meant 1 tops. He was SO concerned that a stampede of 1 tops was going to come in and take all of his booths because I asked for one 😂 I ended up sitting at a half booth in the bar area which wasn't his section. The server in there never re-filled my coffee and could give a F about me but I still tipped over 20% because being ignored was better than the interaction with the other guy.
The french toast was sooo good though.
It was $30 for 6 half slices of French toast with no sides and a black coffee, which was kind of wild.
I'm sure if you come in with a regular sized party they will treat you better. 1 tops are people too! Lol
Initially, I gave this place 5 stars, but today our experience was bad.
Came in with a toddler for a lunch. It was only 70 degrees outside, and quite hot inside already, but we stayed because we were all starving.
I ordered silly face waffles, got charged for pancakes, and instead of any silly face, we just got a half of a waffle broken after baking. My son was not happy at all. Either am I being charged $9 for this.
No one acknowledged anything or apologized. I probably would not be back.
The food can be veganized which is helpful because I have an egg allergy. Giving two stars because the poor man waiting on another table checked in on us or it would be one star service. Waiter was dismissive and seemingly prejudiced. I worked service for many years and treat service workers very respectfully so I feel the waiter’s treatment of us was unprofessional, unprovoked, and undeserved. Do better please.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the place hasn’t changed much since I moved away 12 years ago. I had a breakfast skillet with sausage and eggs and hashbrowns with a side of gluten-free toast. The hashbrowns were cooked just the way I like them, crisp on the outside moist on the inside, but were lacking seasoning. The skillet also needed a little bit more flavor. Proportions were good sized and the prices were fair, the service was OK but not outstanding.

We used to come to 5 Spot every year when we visited our son who attended SPU. The last time we ate here was probably 8-10 years ago.
It was fantastic then and it’s fantastic now! We have mostly been here for either breakfast or lunch and it was delicious. This time we were there for lunch. I literally had the best cheeseburger I think I’ve ever had and my husband loved his salmon burger! The fries were good, but the onion rings were great!
Our server, Nikki, was 10 stars!! Next time we are back in Seattle we will definitely be eating here and requesting Nikki!!
