1/5 star, unfortunately :/ would do zero if I could... And I usually REALLY LIKE SAFEWAY... not so much anymore after several epic fails over the last several visits, I likely will stop visiting all Safeway locations unless they improve on these issues :/ I used to really like Safeway, but lately my experience has been going downhill and I’m honestly pretty disappointed. First issue: pricing. We grabbed a single 20 oz Coca-Cola, and the sale sign said $1.99—but only with a multi-buy deal. A single one ended up being $3.97, which feels misleading when the signage doesn’t clearly reflect the actual single-item price. Also, this price is WAY TOO HIGH FOR A SINGLE SODA!!! LIKE SERIOUSLY RIDICULOUSLY HIGH, Y'ALL! Second (and bigger) issue: coupons and checkout accuracy. Every time I try to use digital coupons along with store sales, something goes wrong. And don't even bother trying to use the EBT produce match coupon ($5 off produce, after a $10 purchase). Last time, I ended up paying around $10 for a 2 lb container of strawberries after the coupon didn’t apply correctly. The item was supposed to be $3.97 with a digital coupon that I had clipped in my account (yes, I triple checked just in case I forgot)... Well, it was a few minutes to close, so I was rushed and I have major functioning issues and brain fog ever since covid, so TBH I really don't catch things like these quickly because my brain is just. So. Slow! Anyways, I didn’t notice right away, and by the time I realized it, it was too late to fix. When I asked about it at checkout, the price breakdown didn’t match what I expected, and I left feeling like I couldn’t trust the total being applied correctly. At that point, I would’ve just gone to WinCo instead, FOR EVERYTHING! Their produce is WAY better anyways. Plus WinCo is an employee owned business, and I believe, a decent company compared to most larger stores. I actually like the overall company enough to give them a second chance after completely embarrassing me years ago in front of my whole community in a horrible situation that I probably should have taken a legal route with... So I actually refused to go to WinCo for over a decade AT ALL. Until recently, as all other companies have raised prices SO high that I usually refuse to support it. I just don't buy from bad companies usually. I quit Walmart about 20 years ago and will NEVER GO BACK! Anyways... Enough of that rant LOL...back to the review... Lol 😜 Overall, Safeway USED to be one of my favorites, but the pricing clarity and coupon issues have made me want to shop elsewhere more often. Additionally, if they keep messing with my coupons and discounts (the only reason I even go there anymore) then I will just stop going there as well, sadly... The sales and coupons are literally the ONLY reason I shop there, so when those don't work right, it is a wasted trip with wasted $. Plus, it's frustrating that I can't trust it to work right and have to check every item on my receipt EVERY single time... $10 strawberries... And they weren't NEARLY worth it, especially considering that I had to dig through all of them in the store to find the best one I could, that was definitely the fresh produce I would expect from a GROCERY store... Come on y'all!!! SO expensive AND SO inconsistent, NOT A GOOD COMBO :/
