It's a terrible shopping experience in today's world. Premium prices, no employees to help, and if you come across one, they hate working with the public and treat you rudely or do not care one bit if they can help you or not. It's not their job. Don't care. Now, no checkers, you have to scan everything yourself and bag it. Not one checkstand is open. Wow have things changed since I was a courtesy clerk bagging groceries back in the day. We had a policy, three in a line, call another checker. Bag every grocery. Take to car. Now not even a hello from an employee. We'd all be fired for such poor performance. Seriously what has happened to our society??? I hate it.

The self check out attendant made me extremely uncomfortable. I was purchasing a 5th of liquor with my groceries and when I asked him to grab it (since the courtesy clerk had put it up front until I was ready to check out) he came over and asked me “oh so you’re not working tomorrow?” And I was confused and said I was, and he goes “I figured since you’re drinking tonight it must mean you don’t have work in the morning.” Genuinely what business is it of his what I do with my groceries? To ask me that in front of all the other people at self-check felt embarrassing and uncomfortable.

I’ve been shopping here since the store opened in the early 90’s. It’s consistently gone downhill. Lately, the wait for self check out and one check out line is pushing it. Get rid of the electronic coupons people can’t figure out, get the self check out expanded, or open more lanes. Listen to your employees- they aren’t happy and it shows. I’ll gladly spend 10 min driving to a Haggen or QFC.

"Visited the Safeway in Arlington and unfortunately had another frustrating experience. Out of my last 5 visits, I'd say 2 or 3 of them have involved noticeably poor customer service — and I don't mean at the service counter, I mean just general interactions throughout the store. This visit I went to self-checkout, where the attendant was dismissive and rude. For context, I always lead with positivity — I wasn't aggressive or difficult in any way. I understand that some people may struggle with social anxiety or are just having a rough day, but there's a baseline of professionalism customers should be able to expect. Also worth noting — this appears to be one of the only Safeways that doesn't keep mini bottles of alcohol behind the customer service counter, which created unnecessary friction at checkout. I'm not trying to get anyone fired. Just giving an honest heads-up to fellow shoppers: your experience here is a bit of a coin flip."

This rating is for pick up orders only. I like to order online and have the groceries brought to the car. It's always less than 10 items, never large items. Safeway is my grocery store for meats and particular cheeses and things they don't have at Winco. The last 3 times I have ordered on the app to pick up groceries my orders have had substitutions that were not logged. I always pick substitutions if any. These items where either substituted when it was marked to cancel if out of stock, or replaced with items I did not choose. And these items aren't listed as being substituted so I thought I was getting my full order to get home and see at least 3 items not as listed, like not even close. And they are replacing with less expensive items, not putting it through as a substitution so I'm paying full price or more money than I should. I won't be using this service again. Wanted to give others a warning.
