On Mothers day last week I brought my wife to celebrate. We ordered Prime Rib with Lobster Tails. The prime rib for my wife was so tough she had to send it back for another one. When they gave her another one , and at that point it tasted like some one had dumped salt on it, and it was just as tuff. Could not cut it with a knife and definitely could not chew it. Then on to my prime rib. Same thing. Tuff and could not cut it with knife nor chew it. The lobster tails were OK, but not like they always were. We have been steady customers since the late 70s when it first opened. Holidays, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Family Members visiting us. Either you bought cheaper, or a new chef who does not know how to cook prime rib. Extremely Dissapointed! Bob and Lisa Jennings

The Windjammer has always been a place my family has gone for special occasions. It's been around forever! This may be our last visit, sadly. Service and quality has gone downhill as prices have jumped drastically. We were seated before our reservation which was nice. But we sat for at least 10 minutes before seeing anyone. Placed our full order all at once. Appetizers came out about 20 minutes after placing the order but our drinks hadn't arrived yet... Salads for the other 2 appetizers came out about 5 minutes after the others. One steak was mid-rare and the other was mid-well, they were both well done. Shrimp for one entrée was way overcooked and the lobster ravioli was obviously frozen and not homemade. $247 for 4 people! The staff, especially our server, overwhelmed. Do better management! The service charge for the kitchen is ridiculous. Pay your kitchen and don't make the patrons. Prices are high enough to cover it.

Food was good and so was the service. Our server was very pleasant. The bar area had many customers of all types (Business, professionasl, and vacationers etc). Only 4 stars for the food, as I was a little disappointed with the French Onion soup! It used to be way tastier and larger (That was during the time they had a delicious salad bar). The soup used to be at least a 9 out of 10, if not 10/10, but now I only give it maybe a 5 out of 10. Overall, I would definitely return to try their dinner menu.

** Adding this edit in response to business's response: We were in a party of 20 and were not given your regular menus. We were only given a specialty menu specific to the event for our group. I can assure you with 100% accuracy there is no mention whatsoever of a kitchen service fee on that menu at all. To make matters worse, all of the 20 of us in the group were responsible for our drinks only (cash bar), so the kitchen service fee was applied to bills that only had bar items on them. I understand you are trying to "keep prices down" and find ways to make money in other ways, but this is disingenuous to your customers. Ultimately you are still asking your customers to pay 2% more, but you are advertising fake lower prices up front to try and look more competitive with your competition when people are trying to decide where to eat. In the end, based on the many reviews seen here, the kitchen service fee is just dragging down your ratings and costing you repeat business. You would be much better off simply raising your prices and being honest. Do you think a patron is going to complain about a $20 menu item that is now $20.40? No. But a kitchen service fee will certainly anger a lot of people. You do what you want, it is your business. But this is a good way to alienate a lot of people. *** End of edit In terms of the food, it was okay. Drinks are over priced, and the food is overpriced for the quality and consistency you receive. For example, we had a large party of 20, and several people ordered the 12 oz strip steak, and all ordered it cooked medium. Every steak that came out was a completely different size and doneness, from rare to well done. Flavor was fine. In general, the food was fine, and I would order it again, but it is not premium. The biggest issue I had was the surprise kitchen service fee of 2%. As a business owner, I find this practice deplorable, especially when it is not mentioned anywhere on their website or menu. In general, I'm not a fan of tipping culture at all, and I think businesses should be required to pay their employees properly without relying on the generosity of diners. But as long as we allow businesses to pay terrible wages to wait staff, I have no problem tipping my wait staff well. But the kitchen staff are NOT tipped employees. They are paid a standard wage. If the business cannot afford to pay their employees properly and still survive without grifting unsuspecting diners for hidden service fees, then the business should not be in business. There may be many people that will simply pay it and move on, but there will also be many people that will deduct that fee from their regular tip amount in protest, so effectively you are taking money away from your waitstaff with this policy. I hope your employees see this and understand what you are doing to them. We will not be back to this establishment until the service fee issue is resolved. The maple manhattan was delicious.

Restaurant is a nice place. The waitress was great. The food is good. But being charged surprise fees? They say in other review responses that they need to do a “better job” of informing patrons of a surprise “kitchen service fee” when presented the bill. But they won’t, I’m sure every customer including ourselves will not receive any mention of this additional charge until it’s on the bill and you ask the waitress what it is. Why not also have special separate fees for the friendly restaurant greeter and also for the guy who brought our food and for the person who cleans the table and how about a supportive fee for the guy who repairs the roof on the building? So empathetic!… by being disingenuous to your patrons. If the check said hey, the manager took a $10,000 pay cut to help this restaurant staff I’d say that’s more appropriate. Are WE allowed to make the surprise and say we’re subtracting 2% from the bill when we get the check? Please don’t reply and say we’re sorry we didn’t communicate better, or we’re disappointed you had a bad experience because you’re not. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be review after review, over 2 years mentioning this surprise fee, which is technically false advertising and just shady. Read the room, just be up front and simply update your prices. It works better than empty excuses. We tipped well over 20% on the entire bill so don’t think we’re cheap and punitive. It’s too bad because we’ve been here with our family several times over the years and I usually write nice reviews. I should have seen the little mention of the service fee on the bottom, right hand corner of the menu!
