For our anniversary my wife and I reserved a dinner table at Treviso. Divided into several distinct dining areas, the interior is uncluttered and welcoming. We were seated in the solarium at the front of the restaurant, street side, with a view of passersby lit by the setting sun. My wife ordered a flavorful glass of organic red wine and we shared the Burrata Salad— tomato slices on a bed of arugula with garnished onions, the vegetables extremely fresh and vibrantly colored. These had been tossed in an exquisitely tasting balsamic vinegar. My wife said the basil pesto and cheese, which we had requested be served on the side since I’m vegan, were delicious. For a main course, my wife had the gluten free Gnocchi Bolognese; she said the gnocchi was not as heavy as others she’s had in the past. I ordered several plant-based side dishes—the Yukon potatos, which were lightly seasoned and which I dipped in a side serving of Treviso’s unpretentiously tasty house marinara sauce (unlike other restaurant marinaras which attempt to put on airs); the grilled zucchini garnished with cherry tomatoes and some other aromatic vegetables; and the sautéed mushrooms—an assortment of portobello, shiitake and other lightly cooked fungi served with thin slices of fresh garlic. The flavors of each of these dishes was enhanced by a generous addition of light olive oil. For dessert my wife had a delectable slice of gluten free almond chocolate cake, placed amid a drizzle of blackberry puree and garnished with blackberries and a light dusting of powdered sugar, and I had a scoop of tasty sorbet. Our server was amenable and attentive to our needs, and toward the end of our meal the owner visited our table to inquire about our dining experience, which was excellent. If you enjoy authentic Italian food, book a table at Treviso!

We came here for a special occasion and unfortunately left really disappointed. We ordered the fritto misto, Treviso Parmesan, and meatballs. The fritto misto was oddly prepared and much too heavily battered, while both the Parmesan and meatballs were extremely overcooked and dry—to the point that they were difficult to eat. Our entrées also took quite a long time to come out. I’m honestly surprised given how many great reviews this restaurant has, because our experience unfortunately didn’t match what so many others seem to have had. We didn’t send anything back at the time, although in hindsight I wish we had. Overall, it just wasn’t the experience or quality we were hoping for, especially for a special occasion.

Treviso is an absolute delight and one of the best Italian dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, Michelle, the owner, made us feel genuinely welcome. You can tell she cares about every guest who walks through the door. Our server, Jeff, was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and with a New York accent that’s especially entertaining considering he’s actually a lifelong Vermonter. We started with the Fritto Misto, followed by the Treviso Parmesan and finished with the tiramisu. Every course was excellent, but the tomato sauce on the Treviso Parmesan deserves special recognition. Chef Michael absolutely knocked it out of the park. It had that slow-simmered, homemade flavor. It’s the kind of sauce that makes you want to soak up every last bit with a piece of bread. We don’t make comparisons like this lightly. My wife’s family owned and operated one of Connecticut’s most acclaimed Italian restaurants, where her grandmother spent years cooking in the kitchen. We’ve been fortunate to eat a lot of exceptional Italian food over the years, so our expectations are pretty high. Treviso exceeded them. Great food, wonderful hospitality, and a team that clearly takes pride in what they do. Michelle has built something special, Jeff made us feel right at home, and Chef Michael turned out a meal we’ll be talking about for a while. We can’t wait to come back.

Excellent food! The Bolognese was outstanding. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, especially our waiter Jeff. The owner Michelle makes a point to talk to everyone at the tables and also help out. A well run restaurant with fabulous food.
