I tend not to give negative ratings and often go out of my way to highlight positive experiences, so it pains me some to post this. The difference in experience and lack thereof customer service has become more evident when comparing Giant to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods which are in the exact same shopping center. Giant lacks the friendliness of the staff, assistance with products when needed or just general availability. Aside from one or two cashiers, the general experience is not being greeted and then waiting to see if you will bag your own groceries. The most disappointing part is how customers have to often go through. There are the baskets that embarrassingly lock with no explanation as to why. I have yet to see a situation where they was occurring. Additionally is the hyper sensitive scale that beeps and freezes things if it feels like you haven't put something on the scale on self check-out. Speaking of self check out, there is the over the screen monitor that freezes and alleges you were putting items in the bag without paying. Again, these are almost always wrong and just subject someone to feeling like they are being criminalized when they are coming to Giant to shop. I have asked clerks and managers directly why this is the case as recently as today, and I was ignored. Even if you want to make the argument that Giant is suceptible to theft, we have two other grocery stores who chose not to have this approach. Whole Foods in the same shopping complex literally has a self check out line and none of these issues occur with the baskets, dinging or overly being surveilled. Customer service there and at Trader Joe's which again are in the same shopping complex is night and day. Lastly, I have been to enough Giants to know that this isn't the case at every store so it is quite concerning why the approach is this drastic in Springfield. It is quite disappointing to see Giant at this location devolve in such a way as there was a lot of excitement and buzz when it moved into the old K Mart location and was redesigned. But my experience has gone down hill since then. Though Trader Joe's and Whole Foods don't have the full selection of all the household foods and goods I need, I am more than willing to drive an extra ten minutes to Wegmans or shop online for it than to continue to spend money somewhere that doesn't seem to value providing me an adequate experience as a consumer. This is my experience and opinion. I hope others have been better.

There was a very rude employee. His name was Jamit. I asked him where the bread crumbs were located and he told me to ask someone else

Definitely one of the cleanest in the area. But it has the same issues all the Giants have. Meat, dairy, and even jarred food and chips/snacks are on the shelf way past expiration dates. The chips I bought for Memorial Day expired in April. I’ve bought yogurt already past its date. I’ve found meat days past its expiration date, taken it off the shelf and set it aside, and told the manager about it. Went back to the section and the expired food was back in its spot waiting for people who don’t check dates. Always check the dates from Giant.
