Honestly… what’s not to like about Five Guys? The burgers taste fresh, the fries are great, and there are enough peanuts to trigger an elephant stampede. The food is consistently good, and unlike some fast-food places, the burgers actually taste like real beef instead of mystery meat with self-esteem issues. But here’s where they lost a star and earned a loud public cry of: “SHENANIGANS.” This was pay all the bills week, so splurging isn’t and wasn’t an option. Do we go to McDonald’s and order nasty food that will later make us sick and vomit or to pull our pennies together and go Dutch. We were surprised to see a combo meal available and what turned into just coming in for a large fry turned into order meals. So, we ordered a combo meal, and my girl simply wanted bacon added to her burger instead of the regular version included in the deal. Fair request, right? Apparently not. The upcharge was over $4. At that point, the “deal” was no longer a deal—it was practically the price of buying another burger. Now, she paid it because that’s what she wanted and it was already said. She was hungry, and emotionally committed to the burger. But something about it didn’t sit right with me. So I walked back up and politely asked: “If I just ordered a side of bacon by itself, how much would it cost?” After consulting what appeared to be the Bacon Council in the back, they returned with the answer: $2. Oh. So somehow adding bacon to an existing burger costs over $4… but bacon by itself is only $2? At that moment, I realized we had been financially Bamboozled. Hoodwinked even. I’m not going bankrupt over it. But that’s still money I’ll never see again. Money that could’ve gone toward a soda, a kidney, or part of my retirement fund at this rate. I’m not really angry. The food was still excellent. I just feel… cheated. Like I lost a tiny economic battle I didn’t know I was fighting. So yes, I’ll absolutely come back because the food is fantastic. But next time, I might just order the bacon separately and conduct my own financial audit at the tab

I have a severe gluten allergy and ordered my food at a very super busy time and Keith from the store jumped up immediately and made sure it stayed gluten free. As someone who travels for a living this made me feel so safe since my entire bill of health is based on this allergy. Being able to find somewhere like this while traveling and someone like Keith makes a world of difference and I wish every person with an allergy or with celiac can find someone like Keith. He needs to be promoted!!!
