I have been a loyal and regular customer of Carls for 46 years. It was a cherished destination for fishermen, lake visitors, and locals alike. Not only for its homegrown, restaurant in a gas station atmosphere, but for Mabels homemade pies, weekday specials, and the famous Carls burgers, hefty and delicious. But times have changed and so has management. Bad attitude, absurdly high prices, and inconsistent food quality are now the new and regular experience. Today was no exception. $16 for four hotdogs, charging extra for roughly 10 potato chips was just too much. The hot dogs were soggy and missing the requested coleslaw. The chips were crumbled and loosely wrapped in paper, and everything was stuffed in a bag too small. When I questioned the cost, I was all but called a liar, and the clerk made sure everyone heard his defense. I had hoped that by now the new management had worked out the kinks. I can no longer recommend Carls, nor will I eat their food, nor buy gas there. Supporting Carl's was a pleasure, for over 40 years.
