That was the most enjoyable meal I've had in a long time. I spent just over 30$ for myself.
Don't let the empty parking lot fool you. Most of their business is take-out. They do have a dining room inside and you're welcome to use it. There's a large parking lot, literally, "around" the building and an ADA ramp, of sorts out front. I think the woman who served me was the owner. She has a great personality and loves to talk. She even laughed at my stupid jokes.
So, when you go to a thai restaurant, you expect the food to be spicy. Usually they ask you, would you like your spice 1-5. I'm here to tell you that 1 does not equal 0 were spices concerned. I asked for level 2 and ended up thanking all that's holy that I order an in-house brewed Tai Tea (milk) as well.
The have my favorite dish (crispy duck) it's on the "chef's specialty" menu section, but the 25$ price tag was too steep for me. I mean I get it, duck is expensive; and crispy duck takes a while to prepare.
I settled on a dish that I've had before at a different place. I'm at a loss for the name, but there are snow peas and julianned ginder, with rice served on the side and it came with a salad. Usually I ask for the dressing on the side but didn't. The dressing was so light and flavorful, I didn't mind a little extra dressing. I also ordered their fresh rolls with chicken. These things are not easy to make. I tried at home many, many times over the years and I am still not proficient. They were nice and tight, the lettuce inside was rolled up nicely, like it should be. The chicken was clearly visible through the rice paper outside. And it was served with sweet chili sauce with peanuts floating on top. Peanut sauce is an additional 2$. Also labor intensive to make.
If I was asked to change one thing, it would be difficult to find one. After much thought, if I had to change one thing, for me, the tea was too sweet.
I understand people around where this restaurant is, like their tea EXTRA sweet. That make me a holdout from the north. I like to taste the tea, not just the sweet.
All in all, this mom and pop shop, hole in the wall Thai restaurant in Norfolk, VA is the best I've found south of the Mason Dixon.
