We came here because of the high reviews and I hate to say it, but we left confused at why it’s rated so high. The people working here were so incredibly kind, but I need to give my honest review about the food. I’ve definitely had better Ethiopian food in other areas of the DMV. This was not bad though, it just wasn’t the best that we had expected since it’s rated very high.
The veggie platter we ordered only had one injera on the plate (that the veggie dishes were being served on top of) and no extras on the side. We had to ask for more which was confusing since we’ve always been given more than enough injera at other restaurants whenever we’d order a dish at an Ethiopian restaurant. At first we thought the extra injera was forgotten, but then the waitress asked us if we wanted extra injera on the side and we said yes. So I guess you have to order extra here, which is a shame. In addition, all of the injera was served cold, which I’ve never seen anywhere else. The meal was not as enjoyable because of how cold the injera was. I’ve been to so many Ethiopian restaurants at this point and I’ve never seen that. I just really don’t understand how this place has such high reviews if this is how they’re serving their meals. The actual veggie dishes and beef stew that we ordered was fine though. Not my favorite that I’ve ever had but it was fine.
Also, I stupidly noticed AFTER paying that they had charged me $6 for a can of soda which I thought was extreme. I would not have ordered it had I known it cost $6 for a can that typically is $2 mayyybe $3 max at most places. I was trying to figure out if it was a mistake and I was charged for two cans accidentally, but it seems that’s the price they charge for one drink according to my receipt.
Overall, not a place I would recommend to anyone looking for the best of the best Ethiopian food. Again, the folks working there were very kind and sweet. I hope they can improve things food-wise and maybe we’ll try it again in the future if that happens.

Moya Restaurant is a hidden gem. The food is authentic, flavorful, and always fresh. The kitfo and tibs are top-tier, and the coffee ceremony is a must. Great service and a warm atmosphere—definitely coming back.
