  On October 1 at approximately 8:20 AM, I entered this Giant Food location and purchased one item. I went to the self-checkout to complete my transaction. During the checkout process, the system alerted me that assistance from a cashier was required. The self-checkout area was not busy at all. There were only two other customers besides me. The system repeatedly announced that a cashier would be coming to assist me and that I needed to wait. However, the cashier working at self-checkout repeatedly ignored me. What was especially frustrating was that the cashier appeared to deliberately avoid assisting me, choosing instead to talk with other people and occupy herself with other things while I continued waiting. Eventually, I left the area. My payment had already gone through, and I was only waiting for the system to release my receipt, which it would not do without the cashier’s assistance. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have experienced this type of customer service at this Giant location. On previous visits, I have also experienced self-checkout cashiers ignoring customers who needed assistance. I have already had concerns about this location, including out-of-date products in areas such as Bakery and issues with the delivery service, which I previously brought to the attention of the management team. However, poor customer service on top of these other concerns makes the overall experience even more disappointing. When a self-checkout system specifically requires an employee to assist a customer, the customer should not be left standing there and repeatedly ignored—especially when the area is not busy. I hope management takes this concern seriously and addresses the level of customer service at this location.

  Kudos to the gentleman working in the produce area on the morning of 8/22 who, on his own, went to the back of store to get me a smaller package of a item that he could tell I was trying to find. I did not even have to ask for help, he did so on his own. That is great customer service.

  I understand there is a homelessness/pan handling issue at this location but that doesn’t give the right to profile and discriminate towards any black or brown person they set their sights on who are actual paying customers. If I could give negative stars on my experience here today I would.

  Good store, good people. The crew works hard and it shows, especially in produce.
